Position Summary
The Shipping & Receiving Team Leader supports the pre planning and execution of daily inbound/outbound activities within the distribution center. This role ensures accurate receiving, timely order preparation, and safe loading/unloading while coordinating workflow and guiding associates on the floor. The Team Leader helps maintain accuracy and safety standards while communicating effectively with supervisors and peers.
Key Responsibilities
Inbound & Outbound Coordination
- Lead planning an execution of daily shipping and receiving tasks, ensuring accurate and timely processing of goods.
- Verify incoming shipments against purchase orders and resolve discrepancies.
- Coordinate outbound loads to stores with accuracy and efficiency.
Team Leadership
- Assign tasks and provide hands-on support to associates in receiving, picking, packing, and shipping.
- Train and coach teams to align with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety practices.
- Act as point of contact for questions or problem resolution during shift.
- Maintain employee schedules, time and attendance
Safety & Accuracy
- Reinforce safe work practices in dock and staging areas.
- Ensure proper handling of merchandise to minimize damage and shrink.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation in WMS/ERP systems.
Communication & Problem-Solving
- Communicate daily priorities, progress, and issues to the Operations Supervisor.
- Assist in resolving shipment discrepancies or system errors promptly.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives in shipping and receiving processes.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; some college or technical training preferred.
- 2 years of experience in warehouse, shipping, or receiving operations.
- Prior team leader or keyholder experience strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and/or ERP systems.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to lift, move, and stage materials in a physically active environment.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to coordinate and motivate team members.
Preferred Skills
- Forklift or material handling equipment certification.
- Familiarity with labor management or productivity tracking systems.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar tools.
Physical Requirements & Working Environment:
- Ability to lift to 30 lbs. and stand/walk for extended periods.
- Ability to bend, stoop, climb ladders, and reach overhead with or without accommodations.
- Comfortably working in a dynamic warehouse environment with varying temperatures.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and peak periods such as holidays or promotional events.
