Description
Reports To: Branch Manager
The primary function of the Equipment Sales Representative is to maximize sales within assigned territory. To call upon existing and establish new customers. The position will increase market penetration by selling and developing market strategies to customers in the designated area and achieve unit goals and gross profit.
Essential Responsibilities
- Making calls at customer sites.
- Be a liaison between the dealership and the customers, call on garages, jobbers, fleet owners and leasing companies.
- Promote the sales of parts and accessories and be an advisor to wholesale and retail customers.
- Seek out prospective customers and business opportunities. Spend time each day in solicitation of new business.
- Keep abreast of new products. Responsible for maintaining current product knowledge on all new and used equipment commonly used in the area of responsibility.
- Responsible for maintaining current knowledge of construction techniques utilized in the area and able to utilize this knowledge to make recommendations and suggestions to improve customer’s operation.
- Keep Managers breast of marketing and merchandising conditions in the field.

- Candidates will need to possess a strong work ethic and have a” go-getter” attitude. Be motivated to meet sales goals and gross profits. Must have strong verbal communication skills and good decision making ability.
- Candidate must be self-motivated, be able to prioritize, pay attention to details and be flexible.
- Customer service experience and knowledge a must.
- Commercial sales experience preferred.

The individual must have basic computer skills of which are to include, Database software; Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet software and Microsoft Word Processing software.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Position requires a high school diploma, valid drivers license and clean driving record.
- 5 years sales experience in the truck sales or vocational commercial vehicle field.
- Current Commercial Driver's License is preferred but not required to begin the position
Physical Demands
Physical requirements commonly associated with an individual working as a Heavy Duty Diesel Equipment Truck Salesperson.
- Mobility: The individual should be capable of moving around the repair shop, including walking, standing, and potentially bending or kneeling to inspect vehicles or equipment.
- Vision: Good visual acuity is necessary for driving and navigating different locations. This includes the ability to read maps, GPS systems, and paperwork related to sales transactions.
- Hearing: The individual should have good hearing to communicate effectively with customers, and vendors, and to be aware of any audible warnings or signals in the repair shop.
- Manual dexterity: A certain level of manual dexterity is required for the individual to handle paperwork, use computer systems.
- Lifting and Handling: While not as physically demanding as a mechanic's role, a salesperson in this field might occasionally need to handle sales materials, samples, or lightweight equipment. The ability to lift and carry up to 20-30 pounds intermittently may be required.
- Driving: Proficiency in driving and the ability to spend time behind the wheel for long hours, often on highways or unfamiliar roads, is essential. A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are usually prerequisites for this role.
- Communication Skills: While not a physical requirement, effective verbal and written communication skills are crucial. A salesperson in this role must interact with customers, explain technical details about heavy-duty trucks, and negotiate sales contracts effectively.
- Working hours: The individual may be required to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, or extended hours based on the sales transactions and operational needs. Flexibility and Adaptability: The ability to adapt to changing schedules, travel plans, and client demands is vital. This role may require frequent travel, sometimes on short notice, necessitating flexibility in working hours and travel arrangements.
