What are the responsibilities and job description for the Food Service Director position at Palmer Public Schools?
(Strong interpersonal and customer service skills. Must be able to work independently. Must be able to comprehend verbal and written instructions. Knowledge of financial and bookkeeping procedures, computer experience, Microsoft Word & Excel. Nutritional training, culinary training, and/or A.S.F.S.A. Certification.)
Required: Associates degree in Food Nutrition or equivalent. At least 5 years of previous experience in charge of menu planning, food purchasing and preparation, and serving of foods in a food service situation. Must have Serv-Safe Sanitation Certification. A valid driver’s license and personal vehicle available for daily use is required.
Preferred: Six (6) or more years of previous experience in charge of menu planning, food purchasing and preparation, and serving of foods in a food service situation. Bachelor’s degree in Hotel and Restaurant, Food Service Management, or Nutrition-Home Economics-Dietician.
Duties to include, but not limited to:
1.Interviews, screens, and recommends to the Superintendent the appointment of all cafeteria personnel.
2.Ensures high levels of cleanliness, health, and safety.
3.Administers personnel policies and supervises and evaluates the cafeteria workers.
4.Operates a program of cooperative purchasing.
5.Prepares specifications and bid conditions for all items requiring such bids by law or School Committee policy.
6.Makes application for government commodities food for school cafeteria use.
7.Completes all state, financial, and town reports.
8.Keep the Superintendent informed about the School Lunch Program.
9.Attends School Committee meetings when invited to report on the School Lunch Program.
10.Makes all applications for reimbursements.
11.Recommends the purchase of new and replacement equipment.
12.Attends appropriate staff, regional, and cooperative purchasing meetings.
13.Attends state sponsored nutrition meetings.
14.Meets with students and members of the school staff to discuss the School Lunch Program.
15.Purchases and maintains an inventory of all foods, supplies, and equipment.
16.Plans and checks all menus for school lunches.
17.Checks all bills and purchase orders for accuracy before presenting them to the Superintendent for payment.
18.Checks all cafeteria workers time sheets.
19.Organize, serve, etc. food as appropriate in our School Lunch Program.
20.Informs the public, through the local press, of planned lunch menus on a weekly basis.
21.Attends C.P.R. training annually.
22.Performs other duties as assigned by Administration.
The salary for this position is: Commensurate with experience.
