Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant - Pain Management

Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated, high-energy, and clinical-focused Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our rapidly growing, fast-paced interventional pain management practice. This is a highly collaborative, fast-paced setting where efficiency, clinical decision-making, and compassionate care are essential. In this role, your primary focus will be direct patient care. You will work alongside our interventional pain physician to manage a diverse patient panel suffering from acute and chronic pain conditions. In this vital role, you will deliver compassionate, comprehensive pain assessment, develop personalized treatment plans, and administer advanced therapies to improve patient quality of life. Your expertise will help manage acute and chronic pain conditions across diverse patient populations and make a meaningful impact on patient well-being through innovative pain management strategies.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

Your day-to-day focus is centered around high-volume, high-quality patient care, including:

• Evaluations & Assessments: Conduct comprehensive patient evaluations, detailed physical and neurological exams, and longitudinal follow-up visits.
• Diagnostic Interpretation: Order and interpret diagnostic imaging (such as MRIs, CT scans, and X-rays) to accurately identify pain generators.
• Multi-Modal Treatment Plans: Formulate, execute, and adapt evidence-based treatment plans that prioritize functional restoration. Provide patient education on pain management options, medication use, lifestyle modifications, and safety precautions.
• In-Office Procedures: Perform minor, in-office clinical procedures such as trigger point injections and joint injections.
• Procedural Screening & Referrals: Identify and prepare candidates for advanced, fluoroscopy-guided interventional procedures (e.g., epidurals, radiofrequency ablations, and spinal cord stimulator trials) performed by the attending physician.
• Medication Management: Responsibly manage non-opioid and, where strictly appropriate, monitored pharmacological therapies within DEA regulations and in accordance with state laws and clinic policies.
• Collaborative Care Coordination: Coordinate multidisciplinary care plans, including making referrals to physical therapy, chiropractic care, pain psychology, orthopedic, neurosurgery, or other specialists.

Skills

• Proven experience working with EMR/EHR systems for efficient documentation and patient tracking.
• Strong background in acute care settings such as ICU or Level I Trauma Centers; hospital medicine; emergency medicine; or critical & intensive care environments.
• Knowledge of pharmacology related to comprehensive pain management strategies.
• Ability to perform physical examinations including venipuncture, IV insertion/infusion, catheter care, and sterile processing techniques.
• Skilled in client communication with a focus on health coaching and patient-centered care approaches.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team under collaborative practice agreements while adhering to HIPAA regulations.

Role Requirements

• Active, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) license in Alaska.
• National board certification (AANP, ANCC, or NCCPA).
• Active DEA registration and state controlled-substance license.
• Experience in pain management, orthopedics, physical medicine & rehabilitation (PM&R), or neurosurgery is highly preferred, but we are willing to train the right, high-energy candidate.
• Ability to thrive and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced clinical environment.

The MD/APP Division of Labor: Our interventional physicians spend the majority of their time in the procedure suite utilizing fluoroscopy (C-arm guidance) for complex injections, ablations, and device implants. The APP serves as the clinical engine of the practice—handling the extensive workups, establishing patient trust, coordinating external physical therapies, and managing long-term patient recovery.

• Focus on Functionality: Our practice measures success by restoring a patient’s quality of life and physical function, not just masking symptoms. APPs are critical in guiding patients through physical rehabilitation, behavior modification, and targeted non-surgical therapies.

Pay: From $135,000.00 per year
