WORK HOURS
This is a full-time, year-round position with seasonal scheduling.
Summer Schedule
- Regular full-time day shift
- Typical hours are 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., four days per week, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Schedule will generally be Monday–Thursday or Tuesday–Friday, depending on business needs.
Winter Schedule (October 1 – April 30)
- This position transitions to an on-call schedule.
- On-call hours are Monday through Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
- Drivers respond to emergency heating fuel deliveries and other customer needs as dispatched.
- Additional hours may be required during periods of severe weather or increased customer demand while remaining compliant with all DOT regulations.
SUMMARY
Palmer Gas & Oil is seeking a dependable, customer-focused CDL Driver to safely deliver propane and heating oil while providing outstanding service to our customers.
During the summer months, you'll perform scheduled fuel deliveries while working a regular daytime schedule. Beginning October 1 through April 30, you'll transition to an on-call role, responding to after-hours emergency fuel deliveries to ensure customers have safe and reliable access to heat when they need it most.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Other duties may be assigned.
- Promote efficient communication and positive working relationships with co-workers and management.
- Safely operate a propane or oil delivery truck while following all company policies and DOT regulations.
- Deliver petroleum products to residential and commercial customers safely, efficiently, and courteously.
- Comply with all company safety policies and hazardous materials transportation regulations.
- Collect customer payments and accurately record transactions.
- Submit sales leads and identify potential business opportunities.
- Complete delivery documentation and electronic records accurately.
- Attend company meetings, training sessions, and required certification classes.
- Follow all delivery instructions and dispatch requests.
- Leave delivery tickets or customer documentation as required.
- Clean and maintain the interior and exterior of assigned vehicle.
- Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections and perform routine vehicle maintenance checks.
- Provide after-hours emergency fuel deliveries during the scheduled on-call period (October 1 – April 30).
- Communicate effectively with dispatch and office personnel.
- Utilize electronic devices and delivery software proficiently.
- Assist other department personnel as needed.
- Perform additional duties assigned by management.
- Maintain and promote Palmer Gas & Oil's brand standards and core values at all times.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
SAFETY
Working safely is a condition of employment.
Employees are required to immediately report all crashes, injuries, and safety incidents to their Manager. If the Manager is unavailable, incidents must be reported to the Safety Manager, another Manager, or Human Resources.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or GED required
- Previous delivery driving or related experience preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
- Must successfully complete CETP 1.0 – Basic Principles of Propane.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Fluent English required.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to prepare routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to communicate professionally with customers and coworkers.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, ratios, and measurements.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and verbal instructions and solve practical problems in a variety of situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS
- Valid CDL required.
- Tanker Endorsement required.
- Hazmat Endorsement required.
- Current Medical Examiner's Certificate.
- Safe driving record.
- Must comply with all DOT regulations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this position, employees regularly:
- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
- Reach with hands and arms.
- Pull propane or oil hoses.
- Lift, move, or pull up to 60 pounds regularly.
- Enter and exit the truck safely using the three-point contact system.
- Possess close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision with the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Employees regularly work outdoors and are exposed to:
- Extreme heat and cold
- Snow and icy conditions

This position requires working safely in varying weather conditions throughout the year.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen.
- Must successfully pass a criminal background check.
