Job Summary

Art Educators inspire curiosity, creativity, and meaningful connections through art by facilitating engaging learning experiences for visitors of all ages. As members of the Education and Community Engagement Department, they support the development and delivery of museum programs that foster belonging and deepen connections with Palm Springs Art Museum.

Working collaboratively with museum staff, volunteers, artists, educators, and community partners, Art Educators facilitate school tours, studio art activities, family programs, and community engagement while helping to create welcoming, inclusive, and accessible experiences for diverse audiences.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Youth Impact Education Manager, Education Program Coordinator, and ECE Department Manager to develop, implement, and evaluate educational and community engagement programs.
  • Facilitate inquiry-based gallery tours, discussions, and hands-on art experiences for school groups, families, adults, seniors, and other community audiences.
  • Support the planning and implementation of museum events, family programs, workshops, and community outreach initiatives.
  • Research permanent collections and special exhibitions to develop educational materials, interpretive resources, and engaging art activities.
  • Prepare studios, galleries, and program spaces, including setup, cleanup, and maintenance of supplies and materials.
  • Maintain inventory of educational materials and recommend supply purchases for programs and workshops.
  • Cultivate welcoming, inclusive, and accessible learning environments that reflect the Museum's commitment to serving diverse audiences.
  • Assist with the coordination and training of education volunteers and support their participation in learning and public programs.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of partnerships with schools, community organizations, artists, and cultural partners.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Art Education, Studio Art, Art History, Museum Studies, Education, or a related field OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One or more years of experience in museum education, classroom teaching, arts education, or informal learning environments.
  • Experience facilitating programs for diverse audiences, including children, families, and adults.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage guests through discussion and hands-on learning.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a collaborative environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive, accessible, and visitor-centered educational practices.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, and special events as required.
