Duties
- Accurately post payments received from insurance carriers, patients, and third-party payers into Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
- Reconcile payments with Explanation of Benefits (EOBs), remittance advices, and other financial documentation to ensure correct posting.
- Review and verify payment details against billed services using coding standards such as DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group), CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding systems.
- Identify discrepancies or underpayments and initiate follow-up actions for resolution or further investigation.
- Collaborate with billing and collections teams to resolve outstanding balances or coding issues impacting payment accuracy.
- Maintain detailed records of all posted payments, adjustments, and denials for audit purposes.
- Stay updated on changes in medical billing regulations, coding updates, and payer policies to ensure compliance.
- Assist with generating reports related to payment posting activities to support financial analysis and reporting.
Requirements
- Proven experience in medical billing, medical coding, or medical office administration with a strong understanding of medical terminology and records management.
- Familiarity with EMR systems and EHR platforms used for billing and payment processing.
- Knowledge of DRG classifications, CPT coding procedures, ICD-9/ICD-10 coding standards, and medical billing practices.
- Experience with medical collections processes and resolving payment discrepancies efficiently.
- Ability to interpret Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) and remittance advices accurately.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong organizational skills to manage multiple accounts simultaneously.
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with team members and external payers.
