Responsibilities
- Assist ophthalmologists during patient examinations by preparing and operating ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment such as A-scan biometry and tonometry devices.
- Conduct preliminary patient intake procedures, including recording vital signs, updating medical histories, and verifying insurance information in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Perform ophthalmic patient examinations, including eye refraction tests and assessments of visual acuity, ensuring precise data collection for diagnosis.
- Manage electronic health records (EHR/EHR) systems accurately by documenting clinical findings, updating medical records, and maintaining confidentiality according to clinical confidentiality policies.
- Operate medical equipment safely using aseptic techniques to prevent infection and ensure optimal functioning during procedures.
- Provide direct patient care by explaining procedures clearly, answering questions professionally, and ensuring a comfortable experience for each patient.
Requirements
- Proven experience working in a medical office setting with a focus on ophthalmology or optometry preferred.
- Strong knowledge of ophthalmic diagnostic procedures including A-scan biometry, tonometry, eye refraction, and ophthalmic imaging equipment.
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR/EHR) management systems and medical records documentation standards.
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations and commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.
- Ability to perform vital signs measurement accurately and efficiently while demonstrating excellent patient service skills.
- Knowledge of anatomy related to the eye and physiology necessary for conducting comprehensive ophthalmic examinations.
- Experience operating medical equipment safely using aseptic techniques while adhering to clinical confidentiality policies.
