Hands-on experience in public safety, emergency response, and communications
Emergency Communication and Dispatch
- Utilizes clear, concise, and consistent excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
- Documents communication activity in automated or manual logs.
- Receives emergency and non-emergency calls via telephone and radio systems and analyzes the nature and urgency of each request. Escalating to the appropriate individual or department.
- Prioritizes calls, dispatches required units or forwards information to appropriate agencies or departments.
Public Safety Operations
- Monitors and coordinates Department of Public Safety activities and assignments via two-way radio.
- Maintains status and locations of public safety personnel using computers, radio systems, and other equipment.
- Stays informed of departmental regulations, policies, and procedures and adapts operations accordingly.
Data and Record Management

Accesses, enters, and maintains sensitive data and files for investigative purposes or other records.
Security and Surveillance
- Monitors and assesses the progress of telecommunication training for new dispatchers or new department members and provides written evaluations as needed.
- Checks keys in and out of the key management system and maintains and ensures accurate records within the C.A.D system.
- Monitors, reviews, and retrieves footage from the university’s surveillance system.
- Ensures the security and confidentiality of information.
- Activates the Emergency Notification Network (PBA Alert) when needed.
EDUCATION:
High school diploma, required. Public Safety Telecommunicator Certification, preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
1 years of related experience in a high-volume office environment, previous multi-phone line-related and working in a PSAP or security call center.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to work non-routine hours during certain times of the year.
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time.
- Ability to traverse campus and stairs.
- Ability to lift/move objects up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to operate equipment, AED, fire extinguishers, and other related equipment as required.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule to include evening and weekend assignments and any emergencies.
- Ability to multitask in a high-stress environment with high-volume phone calls and radio traffic.
