What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Project Manager (GIS & ERP) position at Paladin Consulting?
Job Title: Senior Project Manager - GIS
Work Location: The Woodlands (Mon-Thurs on-site)
Duration: Multi-year contract with option to convert
Education/Experience Required: Deep knowledge of GIS, ERP, and IT with C-level communication skills
Our client needs a seasoned Program Manager to drive a multi-year effort to integrate geospatial master data and business data into core systems and workflows company-wide. You'll be a hands-on functional leader who owns a complex roadmap and works closely with IT and business teams. You'll be accountable for delivery quality at every stage: strategy, operational efficiency, governance, user acceptance testing (UAT), and organization-wide change management. You'll also turn complex technical work into clear, brief insights that executives can use to make decisions.
Job Description & Responsibilities :
- Own the Enterprise GIS program vision, core systems architecture, phased roadmap, budget, and business results, and communicate them to stakeholders.
- Plan and deliver several GIS projects at once, such as platform upgrades and migrations, data model standardization, web and mobile mapping applications, enterprise reporting, and system integrations.
- Set up and run program governance: stage gates, decision logs, dependency tracking, RAID, change control, and escalation paths.
- Work with IT (Applications, Infrastructure, Security, and GRC) and business stakeholders to align scope, dependencies, and release schedules.
- Protect quality from requirements through release. This includes requirements traceability, test strategy, UAT coordination, performance and scalability validation, and go/no-go readiness (runbooks, rollback plans, communications, security, and support model).
- Define and enforce GIS data management standards and processes with business partners. These cover geodatabase design, versioning and branching, metadata, naming conventions, lifecycle management, and access and security controls, set jointly with Security/GRC.
- Manage vendors and partners, including writing RFPs and SOWs, overseeing contracts and budgets, and holding delivery to scope, schedule, and quality.
- Produce clear, decision-ready communications: concept designs, one-page briefs, executive status reports, and risk and mitigation plans.
- Manage program finances and resources: budget, forecasts, capacity planning, and tracking of realized benefits.
- Lead change management and adoption through training and stakeholder communications, then hand off to operations with defined SLAs and support processes.
- Improve delivery processes and tools. This means standardizing PMO playbooks, using PPM and reporting tools (e.g., Monday.com, Azure DevOps, Power BI/Excel), and raising data quality so reporting can be trusted.
- Take on other related duties as assigned. Responsibilities may change as business priorities change.
Skills & Qualifications :
- 10 years leading large, cross-functional IT programs, including at least 3–5 years leading enterprise GIS initiatives.
- Desired: experience with the Esri stack, including ArcGIS Enterprise/Server, Portal/ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, web maps and apps, feature and map services, REST APIs, geocoding, and spatial analysis.
- A plus: solid knowledge of geospatial data management, including enterprise geodatabases (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle), versioning and branching, topology, projections and coordinate systems, and performance and caching.
- A track record of integrating GIS with enterprise systems (e.g., ERP, work and asset management, CRM, data platforms and warehouses, BI). You should have done this through ETL/ESB tools (e.g., FME, ArcGIS Data Interoperability), APIs, and event-driven patterns.
- Proven rigor in governance and delivery: roadmap definition, coordinating dependencies, RAID, change control, vendor management, and benefits tracking.
- Functional leadership of QA/UAT and release management: test planning, defect triage, cutover planning, and operational readiness.
- Strong executive presence and communication, with the ability to explain GIS and technical concepts in terms of business outcomes and decision-ready narratives.
- Close attention to detail and excellent written and verbal communication with senior leaders.
- A strong functional QA mindset: clear requirements, sound test and UAT strategy, and disciplined release readiness.
