Associate Attorney — Family Law Focus
Palacios & Thompson Law Firm | Rio Grande Valley, Texas
Palacios & Thompson Law Firm is seeking an associate attorney to join our South Texas practice. This position will primarily support our family law section, with opportunities to assist occasionally in criminal law and governmental defense matters.
We are looking for a thoughtful, dependable attorney who brings strong writing skills, sound judgment, and a commitment to helping clients navigate important and often difficult decisions.
Responsibilities
- Handle family law matters, including divorce, custody, child support, paternity, adoption, and marital agreements.
- Draft pleadings, motions, discovery, agreements, and other legal documents.
- Conduct legal research and assist in developing case strategy.
- Prepare for and participate in hearings, mediations, depositions, and trials.
- Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel.
- Manage deadlines and coordinate with attorneys and staff to move cases forward.
- Assist with criminal law and governmental defense matters as needed.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
- Licensed to practice law in Texas and in good standing.
- Strong research, writing, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to approach sensitive family matters with professionalism, discretion, and empathy.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively while managing competing deadlines.
- Prior family law or litigation experience is preferred.
