Mission of Workability I - The mission of WAI is to promote the involvement of key stakeholders, including students, families, educators, employers, and other agencies, in planning and implementing an array of services that will culminate in successful student transitions to employment, lifelong learning, and quality of adult life.
WHAT IS WORKABILITY I? • WorkAbility I is a school and community transition program working to benefit students, employers, and the community at large. It successfully meets the needs of local job markets. • WorkAbility I promotes independent living and provides comprehensive pre-employment and follow-up services for youth in special education. • WorkAbility I provides middle and secondary special education students the opportunity to obtain marketable job skills while completing their education. EMPLOYERS RECEIVE... • A program that may pay the initial training wage for students • Job-ready workers who are eager to work • Screened applicants for training and employment positions • Workers whose skills are assessed and matched to available employments opportunities • Workers with positive attitudes • Ongoing employer support services WORKABILITY I PROVIDES • Evaluation of student's interests and abilities • Screened applicants for job-related skills and appropriate work attitude • Employment preparation, instruction, placement, and support • Vocational training according to student needs • Placement assistance and continual follow-up • Coordination of services with business, education, community, and government agencies Please be aware that you will be required to have a valid work permit obtained by your current school site.
