Medical Assistant

Job Description:

As a medical assistant (MA) at Pain Management of Oklahoma ( PMO Medical ) you will perform a wide variety of duties. You are responsible for providing a patient experience that places emphasis on quality of care and customer service. The ideal candidate must work collaboratively with all staff in support of direct patient services. Flexibility and a “can-do” attitude are of utmost importance within this position. Our MAs also serve as a point of contact with other internal and external departments, all with the goal of fostering an environment which promotes patient comfort and trust. The candidate must exemplify the core values and mission of the organization, always exercising utmost discretion, diplomacy and tact in patient/staff interactions.

Essential Functions:

• Prepares for patient appointments by reviewing and updating patient records prior to appointment.
• Reviews patients records to determine needed services, referral completion status and checking lab/test results.
• Maintains exam rooms according to protocols: Cleans rooms between patients. Restocks exam rooms and reports when exam supplies are low.
• Appropriately prepares patient for visit and alerts provider when patient is ready to be seen.
• Provides initial medical screening: Greets patients, takes weight, height, temp, blood pressure, and basic medical history; accurately documents in medical chart.
• Assists physician or other provider upon request during examination of patient
• Utilizes time efficiently by assisting in such duties as restocking rooms/shelves/trays, checking supplies and ensuring that all areas, exam rooms are clean and orderly.
• Performs general clerical duties in support of patient services
• Maintains nurses' station, according to protocols. Performs routine quality check of equipment and promptly reports damaged or missing equipment from patient rooms.
• Ensures clinical areas are organized
• Works collaboratively with Clinical staff and other departments in solutions-oriented problem solving with the goal of providing quality patient care.

Requirements and Qualifications:

• Excellent communication skills at level necessary for taking patients' medical histories, understanding provider and supervisors’ instructions, and accurately documenting patients' medical information.
• Ability to effectively communicate with patient population and staff while demonstrating a high degree of professionalism.
• Beginner to intermediate computing and phone skills.
• Demonstrates flexibility in regards to job duties and assignments.
• Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a fast-moving environment.
• Possess a thorough understanding of the importance of confidentiality and non-disclosure according to the general standards set forth by HIPAA.
• Bilingual English/Spanish and/or other languages a plus.
• Valid Oklahoma Driver’s License, insurance, and ability to travel as required to perform duties.

Education:

• High school Graduate (or GED) required.
• Current, valid Oklahoma Certification of Medical Assistant.
• Current, valid CPR certification.
• Familiarity with community / service area.

Physical Demands:

This is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing or scanning is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bed or stand on a stool as necessary. Additionally, some cleaning is required. This would require the ability to sweep, mop or vacuum floors.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position in a reference clinical setting. The employee must be available during the "core" work hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

Occasional travel may be required.
