The clinic offers a wide range of holistic care services, including spinal and joint injections, nerve-targeted procedures, targeting conditions such as arthritis, migraines, sciatica, and neuropathic pain.


Role Description

The Procedure Nurse provides direct patient care throughout the pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative phases of interventional pain management procedures at Pain Management Center of Lansing. This position operates within a rotating assignment model, in which the nurse may be designated to the intra-operative setting or the pre/post-operative setting on any given day, based on clinic scheduling needs and patient volume.

The nurse is expected to maintain clinical proficiency across all phases of procedural care and to transition seamlessly between assignments as operationally required. This role is essential to ensuring the safe, efficient, and compassionate delivery of care to all patients undergoing pain management treatments.


Clinical Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Performs pre-operative nursing assessments including patient history, vital signs, allergies, and current medications; verifies consent forms, physician orders, and required laboratory results; and confirms patient readiness including IV access prior to procedure.

2. Educates patients and family members on upcoming procedures, post-procedure care instructions, activity restrictions, and follow-up requirements in a clear and professional manner; facilitates a smooth patient experience from admission through discharge, including transport to and from the waiting room.

3. Continuously monitors patient vital signs, oxygen saturation, and overall clinical status throughout procedures, responding promptly and appropriately to any changes in patient condition or emergent situations.

4. Assists the physician with patient positioning, procedural setup, and maintenance of the sterile field in accordance with aseptic technique and infection control standards; performs procedure room setup and cleanup to ensure the room is properly prepared and stocked for each case.

5. Administers IV medications per physician order during and after procedures; manages IV access and post-procedure medications in the recovery area per physician orders.

6. Monitors patients in the recovery area following procedures, assessing pain levels, response to treatment, and overall status; identifies and escalates post-procedure complications to the physician in a timely manner.

7. Accurately documents all patient assessments, interventions, medications administered, and clinical findings throughout all phases of care in Practice Partner.

8. Maintains timely correspondence with primary care physicians regarding anticoagulant therapy and other clinically relevant pre-procedure considerations.

9. Maintains and regularly inspects all equipment and medications to ensure a fully functioning crash cart is available and ready at all times.

10. Utilizes the Michigan Automated Prescription System (MAPS) when processing prescription renewals.

Compliance and Safety:

1. Adheres to all HIPAA Privacy Policies and Standards regarding patient confidentiality and the use and disclosure of protected health information; maintains OSHA policies and upholds all safety standards within the clinical environment.

2. Updates the Material Safety Data Sheet as required; responsible for Sharps disposal and narcotic inventory management, including appropriate use, storage, and disposal in compliance with applicable regulations.

3. Orders medical supplies and pharmaceuticals necessary for safe clinic operations; utilizes Occupational Health Services as needed.


General Professional Responsibilities:

1. Demonstrates cooperation and positive interpersonal relations during all patient, family, and staff interactions; actively participates as a team member and constructively addresses issues to promote quality care and a collaborative work environment.

2. Manages patient telephone calls and nursing inquiries in a timely and professional manner; follows all office guidelines as outlined in the Employee Handbook.


Qualifications:

1. Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Michigan.

2. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN preferred).

3. Minimum of one (1) year of clinical nursing experience; perioperative, procedural, or pain management experience strongly preferred.

4. BLS certification required; ACLS preferred.

5. Experience with electronic medical records (EMR); familiarity with Practice Partner a plus.

6. Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
