Automation Technician (I-III)

Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Automation Technician to support, maintain, and improve automation systems across oilfield operations. This is a hands-on, field-based role working with PLCs, RTUs, instrumentation, and SCADA systems in remote environments.
Key Responsibilities
Installation, Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot PLCs, RTUs, flow computers, and communication systems
- Diagnose and repair automation and control system issues
- Assist in commissioning new wells and facilities
Instrumentation & Calibration
- Calibrate and maintain field instrumentation (pressure, temperature, flow, level, tank gauging)
- Troubleshoot and restore measurement reliability
PLC/RTU Support
- Configure and update logic under technical direction
- Troubleshoot logic-related field issues
SCADA & Communications
- Monitor SCADA systems and data integrity
- Diagnose communication issues (radio, cellular, satellite, Ethernet)
Documentation & Communication
- Maintain service logs and document field work
- Communicate findings, updates, and corrective actions clearly
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all safety, environmental, and company standards
- Maintain job site awareness and adhere to client requirements
Minimum Requirements
Education
- High school diploma required
- Technical training in instrumentation/electrical preferred
Experience
- 2 years in oilfield automation, I&E, controls, or related field
Technical Skills
- Experience with PLC/RTU platforms (Allen-Bradley, Schneider, ABB, ROC, etc.)
- Instrumentation calibration and troubleshooting
- Ability to read P&IDs, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams
- Basic networking knowledge (TCP/IP, Modbus, radio systems)
Other
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
- Ability to work outdoors in oilfield conditions and participate in on-call rotation
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with SCADA systems (Ignition, Wonderware, CygNet, etc.)
- Knowledge of artificial lift systems (ESP, gas lift, rod pump controllers)
- Familiarity with production equipment (separators, compressors, tank batteries)
- Light electrical experience (24V/120V control systems)
- Relevant certifications (ISA CCST, I&E, H2S, Safeland, etc.)
Work Environment
- Field-based role across Midland, TX; Carlsbad, NM; Hobbs, NM, and surrounding areas
- Travel required to well sites and facilities
- Exposure to outdoor conditions and industrial environments
- Rotational schedules may apply
