About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Automation Technician to support, maintain, and improve automation systems across our oilfield operations. We are accepting applications for both full-time local candidates as well as 14/14 rotational candidates. The ideal applicant is experienced with field instrumentation, PLC/RTU programming, and troubleshooting SCADA-controlled production systems. This is a hands-on field role requiring strong technical skills, safety awareness, and the ability to work independently in remote environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot automation equipment including PLCs, RTUs, flow computers, and communication systems.
- Perform calibration and maintenance on instrumentation (pressure, temperature, level, flow, tank gauges).
- Configure and update PLC/RTU logic; support programming changes as needed.
- Monitor and support SCADA communications and data integrity.
- Assist in commissioning new wells, facilities, and control systems.
- Diagnose and repair communication issues (radio, cellular, satellite, Ethernet).
- Ensure all automation work complies with safety, environmental, and company standards.
- Document work, maintain service logs, and communicate effectively with operations teams.
Required Qualifications
- 2 years of experience in oilfield automation, I&E, controls, or related field.
- Strong understanding of PLC/RTU platforms (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Schneider, ABB, ROC, or similar).
- Experience with instrumentation calibration and troubleshooting.
- Ability to read P&IDs, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Proficient in field networking: TCP/IP, Modbus, radio configuration, and basic networking principles.
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
- Ability to work in outdoor/oilfield conditions and participate in on-call rotation.
Preferred/Desired Skills
- Experience with SCADA systems (Ignition, Wonderware, ClearSCADA, CygNet, etc.).
- Knowledge of artificial lift automation (gas lift, ESP, rod pump controllers).
- Familiarity with production equipment (separators, VRUs, compressors, tank batteries).
- Ability to perform light electrical work (24V/120V control systems).
- Certifications such as:
- I&E or Controls Technician certificates
- ISA certification (CCST)
- Safety certifications (H2S, PEC/Safeland, etc.)
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
