Required
The Sheet Metal Mechanic is responsible for fabricating, assembling, and preparing sheet metal components used in commercial HVAC systems. This position works primarily in a fabrication shop environment operating various sheet metal equipment and tools to produce ductwork and related products according to specifications, drawings, and quality standards.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Fabricate HVAC ductwork, fittings, and sheet metal components from shop drawings and specifications.
- Operate fabrication equipment including:
- Shears
- Press brakes
- Pittsburgh machines
- Roll formers
- Lock formers
- Plasma tables
- Spot welders
- Hand tools and power tools
- Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and fabrication details.
- Measure, mark, cut, bend, and assemble sheet metal materials.
- Ensure fabricated products meet quality and dimensional requirements.
- Perform equipment inspections and basic preventive maintenance.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Load, stage, and prepare fabricated materials for delivery to jobsites.
- Follow all company safety policies and OSHA requirements.
- Assist with inventory management and material handling as needed.
- Work collaboratively with shop personnel, drivers, project managers, and field crews.
- Perform sheet metal fabrication and assembly in the shop environment.
- Assist with field installation of ductwork and sheet metal components as needed.
- May be required to work at jobsites and perform field installation duties when workload, project schedules, manpower requirements, or business needs dictate.
- Travel to local jobsites as assigned to support field operations.
- Work effectively with shop and field personnel to ensure project deadlines are met.
Required
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum 2 years of sheet metal fabrication experience preferred.
- Ability to read a tape measure accurately.
- Ability to read and interpret shop drawings and blueprints.
- Basic math skills including fractions and measurements.
- Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication methods and equipment.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
- Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship.
- HVAC duct fabrication experience.
- Experience operating CNC plasma cutting equipment.
- OSHA 10 certification.
- Forklift certification.
- Knowledge of commercial HVAC ductwork fabrication.
- Ability to use fabrication machinery safely and efficiently.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to meet production schedules and deadlines.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing/shop environment.
- Ability to wear required PPE including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and steel-toe boots.
- Indoor fabrication shop environment.
- Exposure to noise, dust, metal shavings, and moving machinery.
- Regular use of personal protective equipment.
- Overtime may be required based on production schedules and workload.
- Primary work location is the fabrication shop.
- Position may require occasional or regular work at commercial construction sites depending on operational needs and project demands.
- Exposure to noise, dust, weather conditions, construction activities, and moving equipment.
