What are the responsibilities and job description for the Diesel Mechanic position at Paducah Power System?
The Role
We need a skilled diesel mechanic to perform maintenance and major and minor repairs on our 44-unit fleet of bucket trucks, pickup trucks, and other equipment, including a mini excavator, skid steer, and backhoe. Hydraulics experience is especially desirable. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, able to prioritize work, can work independently toward deadlines, and has at least five years of experience. This is a non-exempt position under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and subject to Paducah Power’s policies pertaining to overtime.
Responsibilities
Duties include but are not limited to:
· Required maintenance and repairs of vehicles and excavating equipment.
· Maintenance on air brake systems and all mechanical equipment used by crews in installing and maintaining underground and overhead lines.
· Maintaining hydraulic systems on vehicles and equipment.
· Installation and maintenance of spotlights and emergency lighting systems on company vehicles.
· Use of torches or welders for repair of vehicles, trailers, or equipment.
· Replacement of tires on company owned vehicles.
· Operation of drill press, drills, grinders, bench vise, pneumatic sanders, band saw and hole punch to modify or repair equipment and company vehicles or tools.
Requirements
· High school diploma or equivalent, plus a skill level certificate in auto mechanics from a recognized organization.
· Must be a “qualified employee” as defined by OSHA 29 CFR 1910.269.
· Possess a “Class A” Kentucky Commercial Driver’s License which may be obtained in the first six months.
· Must be willing to live within a 30-minute response time to our building at 1500 Broadway St., Paducah, KY. (No exceptions.)
