About the PrimeTime Program
Paddle for Peace partners with San Diego Unified’s PrimeTime Expanded Learning Program to deliver high quality, enrichment-based environmental education after school. Students participate in hands on, nature centered activities that build curiosity, confidence, and environmental stewardship. This role supports 8-week cycles per school, typically during the hours of 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM.
Position Overview
The PrimeTime Nature Educator facilitates engaging environmental and ocean themed enrichment lessons with elementary age students in the after school setting. This role is ideal for someone who loves working with youth, enjoys hands on activities, and is passionate about outdoor learning and environmental justice.
The educator will bring our curriculum into the after school environment, helping students explore ecosystems, marine biology concepts, and emotional wellness through nature.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead weekly 60–90 minute Coastal Ninjas Academy sessions at PrimeTime sites (8-week cycles).
- Facilitate engaging hands-on activities related to nature, ocean science, climate awareness, and environmental stewardship.
- Build positive relationships with students to foster belonging and curiosity.
- Work collaboratively with PrimeTime staff to ensure smooth transitions, attendance tracking, and behavior expectations.
- Set up materials and maintain an organized teaching space.
- Implement SEL (social-emotional learning) prompts woven into curriculum.
- Model safety and inclusive practice at all times.
- Track attendance and provide session notes as needed.
- Participate in initial training and periodic check-ins.
Qualifications
Required:
- Experience teaching, tutoring, coaching, leading camps, or facilitating youth programs.
- Comfort leading hands on activities with elementary students.
- Strong classroom management skills in group settings.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive teaching.
- Reliability and professionalism — must arrive on time and prepared.
- TB test clearance (required for school site access)
- Live Scan background check
Preferred:
- Experience with environmental education, outdoor learning, youth recreation, or nature-based programming.
- Familiarity with PrimeTime or expanded learning programs.
- Bilingual (Spanish or other) is highly valued.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Salary : $20 - $22
