What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Merchandising, Intimates & Active position at Pact?
Pact · Boulder, CO · In-office · Full-time · Reports to Chief Merchant
Pact is a sustainable apparel brand on a mission to build a better world through organic cotton basics. We make organic, fair trade certified clothing that doesn't compromise on quality, comfort, or the planet, and we're growing fast. Intimates and Active are core to that growth, and we're looking for a category expert to own them year-round.
The RoleYou are the business owner of Women's Intimates (bras, underwear) and Active (leggings, sports bras, active tops). You lead the category pod (design and development), driving focus and alignment on what grows the business. This is a category role, not a seasonal role: you lead with depth in consumer, fit, fabric, performance and buy.
What You'll Own- Category business. Own revenue, margin, sell-through, and inventory health, pre-season through post-season.
- Pod leadership. Set priorities for design and development, drive cross-functional decisions, and hold the pod to the line plan and calendar.
- Consumer. Know who she is and what she needs: fit, support, comfort, and use occasion. Use reviews, returns, fit feedback, and research to guide every decision.
- Data. Read sell-through, returns, and reviews weekly and act: chase winners, fix fit issues, flag underperformers early. Lead post-season hindsight by style, fabric, color, size, and price.
- Material innovation. Lead fabric innovation with design and development. Know what's new in performance and intimates fabrics and where it fits within Pact's sustainability standards.
- Competitive assessment. Run in-depth assessments of the category: product, fabric, fit, construction, features, and price. Know what she can buy elsewhere and why Pact wins.
- Testing. Coordinate fit, wear, and performance testing within the pod; use results to make adoption decisions.
- In-stock. Keep core programs in stock. Partner with planning on forecasts, reorders, and size curves so we never miss demand on our best styles.
- Line planning and margin. Build the category line plan with the Chief Merchant: style count, core vs. newness, price architecture, margin mix, and OTB input.
- Briefing. Write clear briefs to design and to marketing/digital so product intent and story carry through.
- Team. 1 PLM who owns data integrity for your categories.
- 8–12 years in merchandising or product at a DTC apparel brand; wholesale a plus
- Deep expertise in both intimates and activewear: fit, fabric, and construction for bras, underwear, leggings, and sports bras
- Proven category business ownership, accountable for results, with strong analytics across sell-through, returns, inventory, and margin
- A track record of leading cross-functional teams to alignment, and the credibility to hold the line on strategy
- Experience managing direct reports; comfortable using AI tools for research, analysis, and reporting
Compensation: $150,000–$175,000 base, bonus, and 401k. Location: Boulder office 2-3 days per week (4–5 during line reviews and market weeks); remote Fridays. Travel: Regular domestic and international travel. Pact is an equal opportunity employer.
