Project Processing Specialist
Position Summary
The Project Processing Specialist will support the Port Authority’s Engineering Department within the Quality Assurance Division, Design Standards Unit. This role is responsible for reviewing and processing Tenant Alteration Application projects and design audit submissions for Port Authority facilities. The selected candidate will help ensure that submitted construction documents are complete, properly coordinated, and compliant with applicable building codes, Port Authority technical standards, and project review requirements.
Key Responsibilities
The Project Processing Specialist will work under the supervision of the Design Standards Unit Manager and Assistant Manager. Responsibilities include:
- Downloading and managing electronic Tenant Alteration Application submissions.
- Previewing construction documents for tenant projects and design audit submissions.
- Reviewing drawings, calculations, specifications, reports, and related technical documents for completeness and compliance.
- Analyzing submissions against applicable building codes, Port Authority technical standards, and relevant design requirements.
- Coordinating review comments from multiple technical disciplines.
- Preparing memoranda to transmit review comments to line departments.
- Assigning appropriate technical disciplines for code review.
- Communicating with Port Authority facilities, tenants, and internal reviewers to support timely project processing.
- Serving as a liaison between Port Authority tenants, facilities, and in-house application reviewers to maintain efficient workflow.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of five years of diverse experience with building codes, building systems, design, and construction.
- Strong understanding of architectural and engineering disciplines related to building design and construction, preferably for transportation or related facilities.
- Demonstrated knowledge of applicable building codes, technical standards, and construction document review processes.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to coordinate with tenants, facilities, technical reviewers, and internal stakeholders.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability and willingness to learn and use internal and external software platforms, including SharePoint, Trimble Unity, eBuilder, and similar systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Registered Architect or Professional Engineer license in the State of New York and/or New Jersey.
- Experience reviewing tenant alteration, design audit, transportation facility, or public-agency infrastructure projects.
- Prior experience coordinating multi-discipline technical reviews.
- Familiarity with Port Authority standards, procedures, or similar public-sector design review processes.

Work Environment
This is a full-time consultant assignment supporting Port Authority facilities and projects. Work may be performed on-site in Jersey City, New Jersey and/or remotely as directed by the Assistant Manager. The role requires regular coordination with internal technical reviewers, Port Authority facilities, tenants, and line departments.
Compensation -- $55-$70/hr
