We are looking for a reliable TEMPORARY Driver who will uphold Pacifica Resource Center’s values and be reflective of the organization in all their interactions with clients or with local businesses and who can transport items in a safe, timely manner. POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Grocery Program Manager, the Temporary Grocery Program Driver will increase Pacifica Resource Center’s capacity to pick up and deliver groceries to Pacifica families maintaining safe food handling practices and adhering to assigned routes and time schedules. This position will be expected to drive PRC’s provided vehicle to pick up and make food deliveries (valid driver’s license and clean driving record is required). The Grocery Program Driver is instrumental in maintaining PRC’s grocery delivery program.
PRC is a second responder in the event of a community emergency or disaster. During an emergency or disaster, and only after personal responsibilities are under control, all staff are asked to report for work to be available to help in ways that may be different from their normal work responsibilities.
All job duties intentionally incorporate PRC’s core principles of Housing First; Harm Reduction; Trauma-Informed Care; and Cultural Competency, Racial Equity, and Inclusivity with the intention of supporting and stabilizing individuals and families in crisis.
The opportunity is a TEMPORARY full time, non-exempt position with a 40 hour work week.
ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION:
The Pacifica Resource Center (PRC) is a nonprofit agency dedicated to supporting the resilience and well-being of families and individuals in Pacifica and along the San Mateo County coast so that every person in our community lives with dignity and has the opportunity to thrive.
Last year (7/1/23-6/30/24), assisted nearly one in seven Pacifica families. Specifically, PRC:
- Provided groceries to benefit nearly 96,000 (duplicated) Pacifica children, adults, and seniors
- Prevented homelessness and sheltered 270 Pacificans
- Prepared taxes for 222 households, generating over $370,000 in refunds and saving taxpayers nearly $50,000 in tax preparation fees
- Prepared 135 Pacifica youth for school with backpacks and gift cards for school supplies
- Provided Thanksgiving assistance to 612 children, adults, and seniors in Pacifica
- Delivered holiday joy with gifts to 238 children and their families
- Provided 551 showers to unhoused Pacificans, helping them prepare for work, job interviews and housing search
- Helped 73, or 20%, of unhoused individuals served by our Unhoused on the Coast (UC) Outreach return to housing or enter shelter (unaudited)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Adhere to safe food handling practices at all times
- Pick up, loading, transporting, and unloading groceries from grocery stores and other vendors to PRC in a safe and timely manner
- Load, transport, and deliver groceries, including grocery rescue items to clients, as enrolled
- Load and unload items from vehicles
- Adjust route to avoid heavy traffic or road constructions, as needed
- Abide by all transportation laws and maintain a safe driving record
- Maintain a safe and clean vehicle
- Assist with preparation of reports and other documents relating to pick-ups and deliveries, including grocery rescue record keeping
- Maintain strict confidentiality of individuals and families using PRC services
- Physical ability to pick up, carry, load, shelf, stock, transport, and unload grocery rescue items from grocery stores and other vendors to PRC, or from PRC to clients in a safe and timely manner
- Strong customer service skills, as this role will be a representative of the organization
- Ability to use Microsoft Excel for reporting and tracking delivery and food and client data, as well as internal timesheets
- Coordinating and working with volunteers to support distribution of groceries
- Complete additional tasks as requested or assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent or higher.
- Prior experience working with safety net services highly desirable.
REQUIREMENTS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Valid California driving license
- A clean driving record and criminal background check
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and MS Office Suites
- Familiarity with GPS devices, apps, or maps
- Knowledge of area roads and neighborhoods
- A polite and professional disposition
- Ability to remain calm in stressful driving situations (e.g. at rush hour)
- Certification in Food safety/handling is a plus
- Ability to prioritize
- Ability to effectively work with individuals and families in crisis, who often have complex and multiple issues to address.
- Understands the need for and has the ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality
- Ability to work independently as well as in partnership with other staff and/or other local businesses and community partners.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position requires 4 hours per day driving; standing and walking for up to 3 hours per day; 4 hours per day reaching with arms and hands; and, heavy lifting and carrying up to 55 pounds, including but not limited to packages, boxes, or bags.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Requires regular travel within the city and county for food pick up, deliveries, and occasional trainings with some work in an office setting.
SCHEDULING:
Full-time hours include requirement for staff to work one Saturday per month.
Normal business hours are:
8:30am-5:30pm Mon, Tue, Thu
8:30am-7:30pm Wed
8:30am-1:30pm Fri
and 8:30am-1:30pm one Sat per month (generally 2nd Sat of month)
SALARY RANGE:
$23.05 - $28.43 hour (depending on experience)
