Description:

The Assistant Dean for Student Affairs (ADSA) reports to the Dean and serves as student affairs officer responsible for students enrolled in the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program. The ADSA is providing the oversight of the student experiences related but not limited to co-curricular student activities, orientation, career fairs, ceremonies (e.g., White Coat, Graduate Recognition & Awards), student progression, student senate, professional development and student organizations) within the School. The ADSA is responsible for oversight of PharmD student matriculation, student academic progression and retention, professionalism assessment and policies, and policy and procedure development and implementation related to student affairs. In addition, the ADSA is responsible for faculty guidance regarding student advising/mentoring and student organization advising.

 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Office of Student Affairs and serve as the direct report for Senior Administrative Assistant and Director of Student Experience and Professional Development by working collaboratively in support of student experiences, activities and events.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director for Graduate and Professional Admissions-Pharmacy and the Admission Committee in the ongoing improvement and management of the admissions process to the PharmD program.
  • Collaborate with Dean, ADAA and ADEE on supporting student academic progression, remediation needs and retention.
  • Manage student progression issues to support student success, including students at risk, students on probation and support students engaged in alternative progression plans. Work with Dean, ADAA, ADEE, and faculty to identify a pathway that supports student success.
  • Act as administrative liaison between School of Pharmacy PharmD program and University Student Affairs Office and collaborate with other student support offices at both the college and university levels (e.g. University Libraries, Financial Aid Office, Graduate Student Support, Office of Accessibility and Accommodations).
  • Provide student mentoring support to faculty while also providing 1:1 student support as needed for concerns brought to the Office of Student Affairs.
  • Act as administrative liaison (ex officio member) to the Admissions Committee and Student Progression Committee to provide guidance in the implementation of the committees’ duties and plans.
  • Plan and organize PharmD student orientation, matriculation, and graduation events and coordinate additional student events as directed by the Dean.
  • Update and maintain Student Handbook and Student Organization Handbook.
  • Assist faculty, staff, and students in understanding student policies/procedures.
  • Support the Dean with required data and statistics for annual reports for the School (e.g., University, AACP and ACPE reports).
  • Provide leadership and oversight for student organizations and related faculty advisor engagement in collaboration with the Director of Student Experience and Professional Development, including supervision of related student organization support processes.
  • Direct and oversee student career readiness initiatives for PharmD students in collaboration with the stream coordinator for the Personal and Professional Development course series and the Director of Student Experience and Professional Development, including collection and tracking of job placement information for each graduating class.
  • Serve on School’s Executive Committee and Dean’s Council to discuss the operation and development of policies and procedures.
  • 0.33 FTE teaching responsibilities primarily within PharmD curriculum.
  • Perform scholarship, commensurate with the administrative appointment, in their areas of expertise.
  • Continuous engagement in service to the community and pharmacy profession.
  • Perform other responsibilities and duties as assigned by the Dean.
Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum education requirement is a doctorate degree. Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an ACPE-accredited program and/or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Pharmaceutical Sciences or pharmacy related field.
  • Minimum of six years of experience in pharmacy academia in faculty or administrative rank.
  • Experience in PharmD student mentoring and support.
  • Strong contextual understanding of pharmacy education and pharmacy profession.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in student affairs.
  • Previous experience in policy creation and implementation.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Possess a record of scholarly/research accomplishment and productivity/
  • Excellent teaching, leadership, written and verbal communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Highly organized, strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Post-graduate training (post-doctoral, fellowship, residency).
