Position Summary: Part-time position with an average of 28 hours a week.
The library program is an integral part of teaching and learning at Pacific Union School. Accessing information has become an increasingly complex process requiring the library technician to work in partnership with classroom teachers. The position requires not only performing library technical and clerical duties related to ordering, receipt, processing and circulation of books and periodicals, but also technology skills in accessing, screening, and integrating information from various resources. The library technician is the liaison between the school and parent/guardian volunteers and the community in library matters. This position is under the supervision of administration.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide library services such as scheduling of classroom visits, performing interactive read alouds with classes visiting weekly, and coordinating various programs such as the Book Fair and Author’s Festivals, as directed by administration.
Stay current on new procedures for storage, retrieval, maintenance, and circulation of library resources.
Assist staff in demonstrating library, information literacy, and research skills and procedures to students in accordance with established school and library standards as well as national best practices.
Work with the network administrator and technology committee to select new technologies for application in the instructional program.
Ability to support and instruct students and staff regarding appropriate technology use including, but not limited to, digital citizenship.
Work with the network administrator to create and maintain student records in the online programs such as the Accelerated Reader online literacy test.
Work with staff and the technology committee to select, evaluate, and manage information and technology resources such as searching the web, identifying valid sources, citing sources for research projects, best practices for conforming to copyright laws and intellectual property, and services in the library to meet the information needs and interests of students and staff.
Promote a positive, professional relationship with students, staff, faculty, administrators and parents to bring the benefits of the libraries to the entire school community.
Maintain a clean and orderly library environment such as maintaining bulletin boards, shelving books, and reporting maintenance needs.
Establish behavioral expectations in conjunction with the school’s “Safe, Responsible, Respectful” Code of Conduct. Monitor student behavior within the school expectations.
Inventory library books and materials. Maintain documentation of lost, missing or damaged materials. Implement a plan to repair or eliminate worn or outdated materials. Keep library sources up to date with current literature and popular titles. September 28, 2022
Collaborate with teachers and the technology committee to create appropriate lessons for technology research skills, choose theme appropriate materials for classroom-based projects and units, and create positive reading programs. Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Demonstrate effective public speaking skills, group problem and solving abilities. * Ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanor during periods of peak workflow and perform efficiently within restricted timeframes.
Participate in various professional development, organizations, and activities that relate to libraries, learning, literacy, and technology in consultation with administration.
Communicate effectively in-person, in writing, and via telephone and other electronic media to individuals and groups of varying sizes.
Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications:
At least 2 years of College Experience (Associates Degree)
At least 2 years of experience working with children and/or in a library setting
Ability to navigate technology, library systems, and stay current policies and procedures
Ability to collaborate and work with volunteers, staff, students, and community members
Ability to multi-task and maintain an organized schedule and working environment
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $18.73 - $19.78 per hour
