We are looking for Full-Time experienced CDL Drivers for our Smith Island, Issaquah, and Maltby locations.

COMPENSATION

$28.00-$33.00 per hour

Job Summary: To drive gasoline or diesel powered solo and tractor-trailer combinations to safely transport and deliver landscape materials from various production sites to homeowners, contractors, and numerous Pacific Topsoils, Inc. yards. Applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations and roads in the area. Must be able to drive both automatic and manual trucks.

Role and Responsibilities

CDL Truck Driver Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • · Seeing that truck is properly loaded, and that quantity and type of material agrees with that shown on invoice.
  • · Climbing ladders to check loads and to tarp and untarp loads when necessary.
  • · Ensuring that cab guards, top rails of truck and trailer boxes, including tailgates, and trailer tongues are clean of any debris.
  • · Inspect truck for defects and safe operating condition before, during, and after each shift and submit a written report of any defects at end of shift. Adjust brakes before starting each shift.
  • · Apply knowledge of commercial driving skills in safely maneuvering vehicle at varying speeds in difficult situations, such as heavy traffic, bad weather, or in tight loading, unloading and off-road sites.
  • · Perform all duties in accordance with company policies and procedures and comply with all federal, state, and local regulations for the safe operation of a commercial motor vehicle.
  • · Report all accidents involving driver or company equipment to supervisor immediately.
  • · Always represent the company in a professional and courteous manner.
  • · Drives truck to destination.
  • · Inspects truck for defects before and after trips and submits report indicating truck condition.
  • · Maintains driver log according to I.C. regulations.
  • · Assists workers in loading and unloading trucks.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Must meet or exceed medical standards of U.S. Department of Transportation.

Must satisfactorily pass a drug test. Must be able to hook and unhook various commercial vehicle combinations in such a way that the equipment is always in a safe and secure mode. Must be able to check fuel, engine oil, and coolant levels and adjust brakes at start of each shift. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Must have ability to read and write and interpret maps and road signs. Must have working knowledge of vehicle safety and control systems.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must be able to clearly communicate on the radio.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid commercial driver’s license, Class A or B.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. In addition to the above requirements, drivers may, from time to time, be required to meet further challenges such as working with tight delivery schedules, delays enroute and other stresses and fatigue related to driving a large commercial motor vehicle on crowded streets and highways in all kinds of weather. Definitions of Task Frequency Designations:

N = Never (0% of the time)

S = Seldom (up to once per hour/per day)

O = Occasionally (up to 33% of the work cycle)

F = Frequently (34-66% of the work cycle)

C = Continuous (greater than 66% of the work cycle)

STANDING: Continuously, worker is required to stand when making sure that the materials are being properly loaded into the truck and when getting in and out of the truck.

WALKING: Continuously, worker is required to walk from the back of the truck to the front when checking loads and getting in and out of the truck.

SITTING: Occasionally, depending on length of travel time, worker sits when driving to and from designated site. May encounter some vibration from truck when sitting.

PULLING: Frequently, worker is required to lift the hood every morning before leaving to check the fluids. This requires pulling of a knob that opens the hood, then starting the hood up by pulling/pushing with medium force, then it glides form there.

LIFTING: Frequently, worker is required to lift the hood of the truck once a day when checking fluids which requires starting to lift with a pull force of medium strength and then it glides form there. Seldom ever required to lift materials that are being loaded, if so, would use a shovel or broom which would require lifting to approximately 80 pounds. Above shoulder: Seldom, with minimal force once hood glides open. Waist to shoulder: Seldom. Below waist: Seldom.

CARRYING: Seldom.

PUSHING: Continuously, same as pulling.

CLIMBING: Occasionally, worker is required to climb in and out of the truck, there are two steps to climb when getting in and out of the truck. (Worker can use good body mechanics and discretion for comfortable climbing into the tuck.)

BALANCING: Occasionally, worker may have to get up on the truck to check and make sure that the load is secure.

BENDING: Seldom, worker is required to bend some when getting in/out of the truck.

STOOPING: Seldom.

KNEELING: Seldom, only if needed to check under truck for maintenance problems.

CROUCHING: Seldom.

REACHING: Continuously, worker is required to reach waist to shoulder level when steering and shifting gears in the truck while driving. Occasional reaching over head to tighten tarp, check load, or lift hood. Seldom reaching below the waist.

HANDLING: Continuously, for simple grasping of the steering wheel when driving, continuous twisting of the wrist when turning the steering wheel. Seldom required for power grasp. Occasional pushing/pulling of knobs or gears.

FINGERING: Occasional, when putting the key in the ignition and grasping small controls such as radio.

FEELING: Not required.

TALKING: To communicate with co-workers.

SEEING: Continuously, to drive truck.

HEARING: Continuously, for safety reasons when driving.
