What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manufacturing Engineer position at Pacific Technical Solutions?
Pacific Technical Solutions is seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer to support and improve our production and assembly operations as the company continues to grow. This is a key role for someone who enjoys solving problems on the floor, improving processes, creating structure, and helping teams build products more efficiently and consistently.
This is not a large-company, sit-behind-the-desk engineering role. We are looking for someone who thrives in a smaller, fast-moving business where priorities can shift quickly, resources are lean, and the right person is comfortable working directly with production, assembly, warehouse, purchasing, quality, and leadership teams to keep operations moving.
The Manufacturing Engineer will play an important role in helping a mature and established organization scale through a rapid growth phase. This person will be responsible for improving workflow, supporting production planning, documenting processes, identifying bottlenecks, and helping build practical systems that allow the company to increase output without overcomplicating the operation.
Position Overview
The Manufacturing Engineer will work closely with operations, production, purchasing, warehouse, quality, and leadership to improve day-to-day manufacturing and assembly processes. This person will help develop scalable procedures, improve efficiency, strengthen quality, and support on-time customer delivery.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in production and assembly environments, not primarily fabrication, and has experience working in a small-to-midsized company, startup, or high-growth environment. They should be comfortable creating structure where it may not yet exist and should bring a practical, hands-on approach to process improvement.
Key Responsibilities
· Support daily production and assembly operations by identifying process gaps, workflow issues, bottlenecks, and opportunities for improvement.
· Develop, document, and improve manufacturing and assembly procedures, work instructions, standard operating processes, and production workflows.
· Partner with operations leadership to improve production flow, labor efficiency, inventory accuracy, quality, and on-time delivery.
· Evaluate current assembly processes and recommend practical improvements to increase throughput, consistency, and scalability.
· Work cross-functionally with production, engineering, purchasing, warehouse, shipping, quality, and leadership teams to resolve operational issues.
· Assist with production planning, materials flow, vendor coordination, and capacity planning as needed.
· Support continuous improvement initiatives across production, assembly, inventory, warehouse, fulfillment, and quality.
· Help establish and track key operational metrics, reporting, and accountability measures to support company growth.
· Troubleshoot production and assembly issues quickly and effectively, working directly with team members on the floor.
· Support quality improvement efforts by identifying root causes, recommending corrective actions, and helping prevent recurring issues.
· Assist with layout, tooling, fixture, equipment, and process improvements to support a more efficient production environment.
· Be willing to step in directly when needed, whether that means helping solve a production issue, supporting the warehouse or shipping team, or working side-by-side with employees to keep work moving.
Ideal Background
· Strong experience in manufacturing, production, or assembly operations within a product-based company.
· Background in production and assembly environments, not primarily fabrication.
· Experience improving processes, documenting procedures, creating structure, and supporting scalable production systems.
· Comfortable working in a startup, high-growth, or small-company environment where priorities shift and employees wear multiple hats.
· Strong hands-on problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues, recommend solutions, and help implement changes.
· Experience supporting production flow, inventory accuracy, quality, warehouse operations, supply chain, and/or fulfillment functions.
· Practical continuous improvement mindset with the ability to implement realistic solutions that fit the business.
· Comfortable working directly with production teams and leadership in a visible, hands-on role.
· Experience working closely with ownership, executive leadership, or founders is a plus.
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field preferred.
· Equivalent hands-on manufacturing, production, or process improvement experience will also be considered.
· 3 years of manufacturing engineering, process engineering, production engineering, industrial engineering, or related experience in a production and assembly environment.
· Demonstrated success improving production flow, operational efficiency, quality, inventory accuracy, and/or on-time delivery.
· Ability to create and improve work instructions, process documentation, workflows, and production procedures.
· Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
· Comfortable working onsite and being highly visible with the production and operations teams.
Important Fit Factors
The right person for this role will be:
· Hands-on, practical, and comfortable jumping in where needed.
· Experienced in production and assembly, not primarily fabrication.
· Comfortable in a small-team environment without layers of support.
· Able to bring structure without overengineering the process.
· Analytical, adaptable, and calm under pressure.
· Comfortable working closely with both leadership and floor-level teams.
· Willing to own both process improvement and day-to-day problem solving — because in a growing company, manufacturing engineering means staying close to the work.
Compensation
Compensation will be competitive and based on experience. Details to be discussed during the interview process.
