What are the responsibilities and job description for the Port Engineer / Ship Group Manager position at Pacific Gulf Marine Inc?
The Port Engineer / Group Manager position is a middle management position responsible to Pacific-Gulf Marine, Inc. (PGM), and its customers for the readiness and performance of a specific group of Ready Reserve Force Vessels, as well as effective management of a site office.
The Port Engineer / Group Manager will be based in the Philadelphia, PA area and report directly to the RRF Program Manager.
In cooperation with PGM corporate staff and senior shipboard officers, the Group Manager shall ensure that group activities are at all times conducted in a professional and ethical manner, and in accordance with the Policies and Procedures set out by PGM Senior Management.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Supervision and oversight of assigned personnel, technical specialists, and contract Port Engineers.
• Supervision of group logistics including approval of parts, materials and equipment purchases/vessel configuration change management.
• Technical and operational oversight of all group activities.
• Project management, vessel maintenance and repair oversight
• Working knowledge of NS-E Fleet Management Software
• Technical specification writing.
• Management of vessel personnel through the Shipboard Management Team.
• Business plan development & budget development.
• Contract and funding administration.
• Other duties & responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time by PGM Management.
Job Requirements:
· Technical understanding of the construction, maintenance, and operation of marine vessels.
· Ability to read and understand technical manuals and drawings, ABS, and USCG rules.
· Self-motivated team member with a strong work ethic.
· Ability to effectively manage projects that vary in nature and scope.
· Strong supervisory, management and organizational skills
· Ability to understand and execute complex oral and written instructions.
· Ability to work independently with minimal guidance.
· Physical requirements, including but not limited to, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing up/down ladders and stairs, negotiating uneven surfaces
· Moderate PC computer operating skills; proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word.
· Experience with ABS Nautical Systems (NSE) a plus.
