Description

The Safety Manager ensures that all safety policies, procedures, and practices across the office, field and shop operations align with federal, state, and local regulations, most notably OSHA and Cal/OSHA requirements. As a leader within an employee-owned glazing company, this role promotes a culture of safety, accountability, and empowerment among all team members. The Safety Manager plays a critical role in protecting our people and fostering ownership-minded behavior in every aspect of safe work.

 

Requirements


Safety Leadership & Oversight:

  • Ensure full compliance with OSHA, Cal-OSHA, and other regulatory bodies.
  • Maintain and update safety policies, manuals, and procedures to reflect current regulations and company standards.
  • Conduct regular office and jobsite visits to perform safety inspections, assess job hazard analysis (JHAs), and provide coaching on best practices.
  • Lead root-cause investigations for all incidents and near-misses; document findings and develop corrective action plans.
  • Maintain OSHA 300 logs and ensure timely and accurate reporting.
  • Coordinate safety planning and documentation for new projects, including Site-Specific Safety Plans (SSSPs).
  • Manage and track required employee certifications (e.g., forklift, aerial lift, fall protection).
  • Maintain and distribute project-specific safety binders and ensure they are up to date.
  • Coordinate safety equipment availability and readiness for all job sites and shop operations.
  • Lead and participate in safety-related training sessions, toolbox talks, and company-wide safety events.
  • Support the return-to-work program for injured employees and coordinate with HR and field leadership.
  • Maintain safety-related budgets and manage PPE/safety equipment inventory.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture in all areas of the business through presence, example, and leadership.
  • Work directly with the Project Managers on any safety required documentation.

Mentorship & Training:

  • Mentor field glaziers and lead personnel on safe work methods and injury prevention.
  • Participate in STAR program-aligned training efforts and reinforce learnings in the field.
  • Assist in onboarding new field personnel from a safety perspective.

Communication & Collaboration:

  • Provide daily or weekly safety reports summarizing field visits, incidents, and improvement recommendations.
  • Participate in Leadmen and project kickoff meetings to deliver safety guidance and updates.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with Field Superintendents and Project Managers regarding schedule impacts from safety-related needs.

Required Experience & Qualifications:

  • Field glazing experience in commercial construction.
  • OSHA 510 certification required, OSHA 500 preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA and Cal-OSHA standards and construction safety protocols.
  • Effective communicator and confident leader with mentoring abilities.
  • Proficient with safety documentation tools (e.g., Bluebeam, PlanGrid, Smartsheet, Microsoft Office).
  • Comfortable working in offices, shops and field environments.
  • Able to identify hazards and implement practical safety controls in glazing-specific tasks.
  • Time Management

Position Schedule: Full-time, Exempt. This position is exempt from overtime pay and employees do not work in the context of an eight-hour day but work to accomplish their responsibilities, which may take longer than a 40-hour week.
