About Us

We are a rapidly growing office furniture dealership in San Diego. We are looking for a reliable, detail-oriented Space Planner to partner with us on a flexible, contract basis. Because we are scaling, we can customize this role to the right fit: whether you want a steady, low-hour side gig or are looking to actively scale up your workload over time, the opportunity is here.

Position Overview

We are seeking a talented Freelance Commercial Furniture Space Planner to translate project requirements into functional, code-compliant office layouts. While you will typically work remotely from existing CAD plans provided by our team, there will be occasional opportunities for on-site field measurements in the San Diego area. Beyond technical skills, we are looking for a positive, upbeat partner who truly enjoys collaborating with others, being creative and helping clients bring their workspace visions to life.

This role is completely virtual and built around your schedule, making it ideal for an established freelancer or a skilled designer looking for premium, supplemental contract work.

Key Responsibilities

Space Planning & Layouts: Create efficient, ergonomic space plans and office furniture layouts based on existing CAD drawings.

PDF to CAD Conversions: Comfortably work from PDF files for introductory project engagements, scaling and determining dimensions to kickstart initial space planning.

Site Surveys: Occasionally conduct onsite field measurements and site verifications at client locations around the San Diego metro area.

Furniture Specification: Select furniture products and generate precise bills of materials (BOM) for commercial furniture lines.

Technical Drawings: Produce accurate 2D/3D floor plans, finish schedules, and installation drawings.

Collaboration: Virtually collaborate with our team to review project briefs and revisions. Occasionally

File Management & Organization: Maintain meticulous folder organization on our shared drive. Ensure all CAD/design files, blocks, layers, and project folders are clean, organized, and structured according to company naming standards for seamless team sharing.

Client Communication: Participate in occasional virtual calls or design review meetings with clients when necessary (not frequent, but required for specific project alignments).

Requirements & Qualifications

Experience: 3 years of professional experience in commercial interior design, space planning, or office furniture dealership design.

Software Skills:

AutoCAD mastery is required.

CET Configura experience is a major plus, but not required.

Deep Furniture Knowledge: Strong understanding of commercial office furniture systems, code requirements, ancillary pieces, and electrical/data integration.

Hardware Setup: Must possess your own computer setup capable of running design software smoothly, along side a reliable internet connection.

San Diego Location: Must be local to the San Diego area to accommodate occasional onsite measurement needs, or willing to travel when needed.

What We Offer: Growth or Stability, Customized to You

Choose Your Path:

Want growth? We are expanding. For the right fit, the opportunity is absolutely there to take on more hours and scale your workload alongside us.

Prefer a steady side gig? If 5–15 hours a month is your sweet spot, we can keep your workload predictable and customized to your exact availability.

Ultimate Flexibility: Manage your own schedule. Work when and where you want, as long as project deadlines are met.

Premium Contractor Pay: Reliable contract pay at $65/hour, matching the high level of expertise we require.
