Anchorage, AK Full Time
POSTED ON 7/31/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 11/28/2026

Overview

Pacific Dataport Inc., a leading provider of satellite and network solutions, is seeking an experienced Network Infrastructure Manager to lead and personally support the installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of our IP, fiber optic, transport, and satellite network infrastructure. This is a hands-on technical leadership position, not primarily a desk-management role. The successful candidate will work directly on network turn-ups, equipment installation, fiber testing, troubleshooting, commissioning, site work, and service restoration while also coordinating technicians, contractors, projects, and network maintenance activities. Periodic travel to remote sites throughout Alaska is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on technical leadership for the operation and maintenance of IP, Ethernet, fiber optic, transport, satellite gateway, and related telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Personally install, configure, test, commission, troubleshoot, repair, and replace routers, switches, optical transport equipment, firewalls, monitoring systems, and associated network infrastructure.
  • Lead network turn-ups, migrations, maintenance windows, service restorations, and planned infrastructure upgrades.
  • Troubleshoot complex Layer 1, Layer 2, and Layer 3 network issues using network monitoring systems, command-line tools, and industry-standard test equipment.
  • Support fiber optic infrastructure, including inspection, cleaning, loss testing, OTDR testing, troubleshooting, patching, documentation, and coordination of splicing activities.
  • Support satellite gateway and earth-station network interfaces, including IP connectivity, transport, redundancy, monitoring, and integration with terrestrial networks.
  • Develop and execute Methods of Procedure (MOPs), maintenance plans, test plans, commissioning procedures, and rollback plans for network changes.
  • Monitor network availability, capacity, alarms, performance, and reliability; identify recurring issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate network diagrams, IP addressing records, equipment inventories, rack elevations, fiber assignments, circuit records, configuration backups, and site documentation.
  • Manage and direct technicians and contractors while remaining actively engaged in field and technical work, including hands-on training and mentoring.
  • Coordinate with engineering, operations, vendors, carriers, customers, contractors, and executive management on installations, outages, upgrades, and technical issues.
  • Manage contract resources and/or external service providers.
  • Assist with project planning, material selection, vendor evaluation, budgeting, scheduling, and implementation of network infrastructure projects.
  • Participate in emergency restoration and after-hours escalation for critical network events.
  • Travel to remote Alaska locations as needed for installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, commissioning, inspections, and project support.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • 7 years of progressively responsible experience in IP networking, telecommunications infrastructure, network operations, field services, or a closely related technical environment.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience installing, configuring, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining production network infrastructure.
  • Strong practical knowledge of TCP/IP networking, IPv4/IPv6, subnetting, VLANs, routing, switching, DHCP, DNS, NAT, QoS, and network redundancy.
  • Working knowledge of routing protocols and technologies such as BGP and OSPF.
  • Demonstrated experience with fiber optic and Ethernet networks, including OTDR, optical power meter, and Ethernet testing.
  • Experience with network equipment from manufacturers such as Juniper, Cisco, Nokia, Ciena, Fortinet, or comparable platforms.
  • Experience leading technicians, contractors, technical projects, or network maintenance activities while remaining personally involved in technical work.
  • Ability to read and create network diagrams, schematics, rack elevations, fiber diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, organizational, and customer-service skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record, with the ability and willingness to travel within Alaska and work at remote locations.

Preferred Skills

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Networking, Electronics, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Industry certifications such as CCNA/CCNP, JNCIA/JNCIS, Nokia, Ciena, BICSI, FOA/CFOT, ETA, or equivalent technical certifications.
  • Experience supporting carrier, ISP, satellite, data-center, central-office, or other critical communications networks.
  • Experience with satellite communications, gateway infrastructure, Starlink, OneWeb, Gilat, or integration of satellite and terrestrial IP networks.
  • Knowledge of DWDM/CWDM, PON, carrier Ethernet, AC/DC power, UPS systems, grounding, and environmental monitoring.
  • Experience working in Alaska or remote environments, including challenging weather and limited infrastructure.
  • Experience managing vendors, contractors, maintenance programs, and network infrastructure projects.
