Compensation: $70k-85k/yr
Position Summary:
We are looking for an experienced and highly organized Human Resources Generalist to support our HR operations at our seafood manufacturing facility. This role is responsible for a wide range of HR functions including timecard management, workers’ compensation, benefits administration, employee relations, recruiting, onboarding, training, and enforcing company policies.
This position requires strong interpersonal skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to operate in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while ensuring compliance with employment laws, safety standards, and food industry regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Time & Attendance
- Review, audit, and process employee timecards to ensure accuracy and compliance with wage and hour laws.
- Resolve timekeeping discrepancies and support supervisors in using timekeeping systems effectively.
Workers’ Compensation
- Serve as the primary contact for workers’ compensation claims, ensuring proper documentation, timely reporting, and effective communication with employees and insurance providers.
- Collaborate with safety and operations teams on incident investigations and return-to-work plans.
Benefits Administration
- Administer employee benefits programs including enrollments, changes, and terminations.
- Educate employees about benefit options and resolve benefits-related inquiries.
- Support annual open enrollment and coordinate benefits communication and events.
Employee Relations & Compliance
- Provide guidance to employees and supervisors on HR policies, procedures, and employment laws.
- Conduct investigations into complaints or policy violations; document findings and recommend appropriate corrective or disciplinary actions.
- Promote a positive, respectful work environment in alignment with company values and GMP standards.
Recruitment & Onboarding
- Manage full-cycle recruitment for hourly and salaried positions, including job postings, applicant screening, interviews, and offer letters.
- Coordinate and conduct new hire onboarding sessions, ensuring all compliance documents and trainings are completed.
- Maintain compliance with I-9 and E-Verify requirements.
Training & Development
- Support and track mandatory training for all employees, including GMPs, safety, harassment prevention, and job-specific training.
- Collaborate with department leads to identify training needs and develop training materials or schedules.
HR Administration & Records
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records in the HRIS and physical files as required.
- Prepare HR reports and ensure documentation supports audit and compliance readiness.
GMP Compliance
- Ensure HR practices and employee policies support compliance with GMPs, FDA, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements.
- Partner with operations and quality assurance to reinforce GMP awareness and compliance among staff.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- 3 years of experience in a Human Resources Generalist role, preferably in a manufacturing or food production environment.
- Working knowledge of HR laws and practices including FMLA, ADA, FLSA, OSHA, and workers’ compensation.
- Experience with HRIS and timekeeping systems (e.g., ADP, Paycom, Kronos, etc.).
- Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and food industry compliance is strongly preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and act with integrity and professionalism.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to walk production areas in a food manufacturing plant while adhering to safety and GMP protocols.
- Occasionally lift or move files and office supplies up to 25 pounds.
- May be asked to travel to our Boston office (rare).
Work Environment:
- Primarily office-based with regular interaction on the production/warehouse floor.
- Exposure to food production environments with temperature variations and noise.
- Warehouse/Production temperatures ranging from 20-40 degrees.
