Position Overview
We are seeking an Environmental Specialist 1 to support environmental laboratory and analytical activities. The ideal candidate will have a background in chemistry, biology, environmental science, or engineering, along with strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills.
The Environmental Specialist 1 will perform complex chemical analyses using laboratory instrumentation and established analytical methodologies, ensure compliance with regulatory and customer requirements, maintain quality control standards, and support efficient day-to-day laboratory operations.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Work safely and identify and implement corrective actions for unsafe working conditions.
- Conduct diverse and complex chemical analyses using a variety of laboratory instrumentation and analytical methodologies.
- Prepare technical documents and analytical procedures and perform advanced analytical testing.
- Ensure analytical methods comply with applicable regulatory and customer requirements.
- Establish and evaluate analytical data and process quality control.
- Prioritize and manage daily workloads effectively.
- Maintain analytical instrument performance and monitor supply inventories for assigned methodologies.
- Consistently maintain a high level of attention to detail while performing assigned duties.
- Maintain excellent communication with co-workers and customers.
- Utilize technical standard operating procedures to perform required analyses.
- Evaluate sample data and identify potential analytical issues.
- Troubleshoot and resolve instrumentation issues using analytical problem-solving skills.
- Interface effectively with internal and external work groups and customers.
- Support multiple projects and manage competing deadlines as required.

Minimum Qualifications
- Science degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field, or an Engineering degree.
- Minimum of 15 semester hours of Chemistry.
- Knowledge of EPA, ASTM, Standard Methods, and other applicable reference standards and their application.
- Ability to use technical standard operating procedures to perform analyses.
- Ability to understand technical procedures and evaluate sample data.
- Demonstrated attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve instrumentation issues.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to interface effectively with internal and external work groups and customers.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience utilizing analytical reference methods and instrumentation to perform analyses.
- Experience with quality control requirements for analytical methods.
- Previous experience in an environmental, chemical, or analytical laboratory environment.
- Experience working with regulatory and customer-specific analytical requirements.
