Position Summary
The Assistant Manager / Lead Job Specialist at the Beehive Café supports the daily operations of PACE Enterprises’ integrated café program, which provides employment and job training opportunities for individuals with disabilities. This role assists the Kitchen Manager in supervising café operations, overseeing staff and employees served, maintaining food service standards, and ensuring compliance with health, safety, and vocational training requirements.
The Assistant Manager also serves as the lead job specialist, providing on-the-job coaching, documentation, and support to program participants to foster skill development, independence, and successful employment outcomes.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesOperational Support
- Assist the Kitchen Manager in overseeing daily café operations, including food preparation, service, sanitation, and cash handling.
- Open and/or close the café as assigned, ensuring security, cleanliness, and readiness for operations.
- Monitor inventory, order supplies, and ensure products are stored and rotated properly.
- Maintain compliance with Monongalia County Health Department standards and PACE safety policies.
- Ensure consistent food quality, presentation, and portion control in alignment with menu and customer expectations.
Supervision & Leadership
- Provide daily supervision, direction, and feedback to café employees and individuals served through PACE’s employment program.
- Serve as acting manager in the absence of the Kitchen Manager.
- Assist in scheduling, shift coverage, and timekeeping documentation through Paycom.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive work environment that promotes teamwork, dignity, and respect for all employees.
Job Coaching & Participant Support
- Deliver direct job coaching, mentoring, and skill-building for individuals with disabilities working in the café.
- Document progress, attendance, and performance data in accordance with PACE Enterprises’ job coaching and reporting standards.
- Collaborate with Employment Specialists and Case Managers to develop and implement individual employment goals.
- Provide feedback and recommendations on participant performance, accommodations, and potential for community-based employment.
Administrative & Compliance
- Assist in maintaining training documentation, certifications, and employee records (ServSafe, food handler cards, etc.).
- Participate in audits, inspections, and program reviews as needed.
- Ensure adherence to all PACE Enterprises, SourceAmerica, and AbilityOne program standards and guidelines.
- Support HR and leadership with incident reporting, performance documentation, and corrective action as appropriate.
Customer Service & Community Relations
- Maintain a welcoming, professional, and inclusive atmosphere for customers, guests, and community partners.
- Handle customer feedback and service issues promptly and courteously.
- Represent PACE Enterprises and the Beehive Café’s mission in a positive and professional manner.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required; associate’s degree in hospitality, culinary arts, or human services preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in food service or café operations.
- At least 1 year of supervisory or lead experience preferred.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities strongly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Working knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and café operations.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Compassionate, patient, and adaptable approach when supporting individuals with diverse needs.
- Basic computer literacy and familiarity with Paycom, Microsoft Office, and point-of-sale (POS) systems.
Certifications
- Food Handler or ServSafe Certification required (or must obtain within 30 days of hire).
- CPR/First Aid Certification preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 30 lbs. for extended periods.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with exposure to heat and food preparation equipment.
