Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented hybrid (in office 2-3 days/week) Fractional Controller to join our finance team in Princeton, New Jersey. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, you will partner with our accounting team to strengthen financial operations, ensure regulatory compliance, and support strategic business decisions through accurate financial management and reporting.
This is a fractional role ideal for an experienced financial professional familiar with managerial accounting seeking flexible engagement with a growing technology company that will provide a gateway to a future FTE role.
Key Responsibilities
· Oversee the accounting function and work closely with the CFO and accounting staff to manage the company's financial operations.
· Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and all applicable regulations.
· Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency and internal controls.
· Prepare and analyze financial statements, budgets, and forecasts to support management decision-making.
· Manage the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processes.
· Conduct reconciliations of balance sheet accounts and investigate discrepancies.
· Familiarity with selecting and/or implementing financial/accounting software packages (e.g. Oracle Financials, QB professional, Hyperion, Alvalara, etc.)
· Coordinate with external auditors and tax professionals.
· Assist with financial planning, cash flow management, and working capital optimization.
· Manage relationship with bank and external accountants.
· Negotiate credit and/or payment terms with vendors.
· Mentor and support the accounting team in their professional development.
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, with certification as a CPA, CMA, or CIA preferred.
· 5 or more years of experience as a Controller, Controller, or in a similar senior accounting leadership role.
· Possess strong knowledge of US GAAP and financial reporting standards.
· Demonstrate expertise in accounting software systems and advanced proficiency with Excel.
· Solid experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
· Exhibit strong communication skills and the ability to translate financial information for non-financial audiences.
· You are based in New Jersey and willing to work from a New Jersey location.
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience in technology, cleantech, or infrastructure sectors.
· Experience with venture-backed or rapidly scaling companies.
· Familiarity with internal audit functions and SOX compliance.
· Knowledge of multi-entity accounting and consolidation processes.

Pay: $75.00 - $120.00 per hour
