Job Description

Typical intern activities may include:
- early phase conceptualization and brainstorming
- collaboration with cross-disciplinary teams
- design and fabrication of prototype mechanical models/systems
- use of SolidWorks or other CAD programs for mechanical design development
- use of basic shop tools and equipment
- troubleshooting of models/systems
- testing/optimization of systems for subsequent commercialization
- interfacing directly with vendors and potentially clients
- developing code to interface with electromechanical systems or analyze datasets
Candidates for this position:
- will have completed at least their second year of post-high school education by the start of the internship
- are currently pursuing a BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering or related field and will return to an academic program at the end of the internship
- are knowledgeable of engineering fundamentals, mechanical design, and material mechanics
- are flexible, creative, adaptable, and demonstrate a desire to learn
- effectively communicate their work and ideas to interdisciplinary groups
- are expected to be fully in-person at the location listed for this position
- enthusiasm, self-motivation, and the ability to thrive in an informal work environment with minimal supervision
- aptitude with hand and machine tools
- familiarity with 3D modeling as a primary tool for engineering development
