What are the responsibilities and job description for the Non-Profit Executive Director - Founding, Tourism position at PA Ag Discovery Center?
The Pennsylvania Ag Discovery Center (https://discoverpaag.org/) is hiring an Executive Director to lead the organization’s next phase of growth. The Board is seeking an experienced nonprofit leader with a strong track record in fundraising, capital campaigns, and board partnership to build the organization’s financial foundation and guide it toward opening.
Reporting to—and partnering closely with—the Board of Directors, you will lead strategy, fundraising, and operational buildout. You’ll cultivate donors and sponsors, position and run a capital campaign, and represent the Center in the community. Agricultural industry knowledge or connections are a plus but are not required; what matters most is proven nonprofit leadership and fundraising success.
Responsibilities
- Partner closely with the Board to set priorities, define decision rights, and execute strategy.
- Lead all fundraising efforts — major gifts, donor stewardship, sponsorships, and fundraising events — and position and run a capital campaign.
- Build and manage a major gifts pipeline, including prospecting, cultivation, and moves management.
- Oversee planning and coordination for design, development, and construction readiness, including budgets and vendor/contractor coordination.
- Represent the Center at community and industry events; serve as the organization’s lead ambassador.
- Build an opening-ready operating plan and budget to support sustainable operations.
- Develop programming concepts that strengthen community experiences and visitor engagement.
- Build agricultural industry partnerships and community relationships across Pennsylvania.
Qualifications
- Significant nonprofit leadership experience, including effective partnership with a board.
- Demonstrated, candidate-owned fundraising success, with capital campaign experience strongly preferred.
- Experience building and managing a major gifts pipeline and donor relationships.
- Strong communication, relationship-building, and project management skills.
- Experience creating community experiences and/or visitor engagement (e.g., museums, education, destination attractions, mission-centered public programming) is a plus.
- Agricultural industry connections are helpful but not required — candidates with the credibility and ability to build those relationships quickly are encouraged to apply.
