Position Overview
P4 Management Partners is seeking an experienced, hands-on Accounting Controller to lead and execute internal accounting operations across a portfolio of operating companies. This role is designed for a senior accounting professional who thrives in a multi-entity, operator-driven environment and is comfortable owning the full financial function—including payroll and employee benefit cost accounting—across:
- Alamo Pintado Equine Medical Center: A large 50 year old equine veterinary hospital
- Rion Vet: A veterinary biotechnology and regenerative medicine startup (Closed a $15 Million Series A in October 2025)
- Titanium Edge: A therapeutic direct ship dog food startup.
- Multiple operating and holding LLCs
- Multiple commercial properties
The Controller is responsible for financial accuracy, controls, reporting, and cost visibility, supporting both day-to-day operations and long-term strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Close
- Own and execute the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close across all entities
- Maintain the general ledger, journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations
- Prepare entity-level and consolidated financial statements
- Manage intercompany transactions, allocations, and eliminations
- Maintain a scalable multi-entity chart of accounts and accounting policies
Cash, AP, AR, Treasury & Payroll
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable, including vendor payments, billing, and collections
- Manage cash flow forecasting, bank accounts, and reconciliations
- Monitor working capital across operating entities
- Oversee payroll processing in coordination with third-party payroll providers
- Ensure payroll entries, accruals, and reconciliations are accurately reflected in the general ledger
Employee Benefits (Finance-Led Scope)
- Own the financial management and accounting of employee benefit programs across all entities, including:
- Health, dental, and vision plans
- Retirement plans (e.g., 401(k))
- HSA/FSA plans
- Workers’ compensation and related insurance programs
- Ensure accurate benefit deductions, employer contributions, and accruals are recorded and reconciled
- Manage benefit-related vendor invoices, funding schedules, and cash planning
- Partner with benefits brokers and payroll providers on cost analysis, renewals, and plan changes from a financial perspective
- Track and report benefits costs by entity, department, and headcount to support budgeting and forecasting
- Support compliance reporting (ACA, ERISA, COBRA coordination) in collaboration with external advisors, from a financial control and reporting standpoint
Tax, Compliance & Controls
- Coordinate with external CPAs on:
- Federal and state income taxes
- Sales and use tax
- Payroll and employment-related filings
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and entity governance
- Support audits, lender reporting, and investor requests
Operational & Entity Accounting
- Manage accounting for:
- Veterinary hospital revenue cycles and cost structures
- Biotech R&D expenses, capitalization, and cost tracking
- Inventory, COGS, and manufacturing-related expenses
- Fixed assets and depreciation
- Support entity formations, clean-ups, integrations, and system migrations
Systems & Process Improvement
- Own and optimize accounting systems and reporting tools
- Improve workflows, internal controls, and close efficiency
- Build scalable financial infrastructure to support growth and complexity
- Develop management reporting and dashboards for leadership
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s or Associates degree in Accounting or Finance
- 7–12 years of progressive accounting experience
- Prior experience as a Controller or Senior Accounting Manager
- Strong hands-on multi-entity accounting experience
- Deep working knowledge of GAAP and close processes
- High proficiency in accounting systems and Excel
- Experience working directly with CPAs, payroll providers, and benefits vendors
Preferred
- CPA or CPA-track
- Experience in:
- Manufacturing
- Veterinary, healthcare, or professional services businesses
- Biotech, life sciences, or R&D-driven companies
- Entrepreneurial or PE-backed environments
- Familiarity with payroll and benefit cost structures in people-intensive operations
