Dozer / Universal Equipment Operator

OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY

Operate and maintain heavy, motorized equipment in a safe and efficient manner within our aggregates mining operation.

JOB DUTIES

  • Perform pre-shift, and post-shift safety inspections and complete daily equipment report. Reports unsafe mechanical conditions to shop foreman and supervisor.
  • Has full knowledge of and can operate a D10 Bulldozer and/or Motor Grader as well as two or more of the following: crane, front-end loader, skid steer, and haul truck.
  • In operating the bulldozer:
  • Must be able to shoot grade.
  • Must be able to cut slopes and have experience using a slope board.
  • Cleans up pit areas, slopes and drainage in compliance with the company’s reclamation plan.
  • Grades and maintains roads in and around the property.
  • Cuts slopes 2 to 1 and 3 to 1. May knock down high walls as high as 200 feet.
  • Performs duties safely, responsibly and proficiently observing all safety and health rules.
  • Operates equipment with precision and efficiency to meet plan specifications and complete job tasks. Knows and does not exceed equipment limitations such as capacity and capability.
  • Has solid knowledge of plant terrain, maintains an awareness of surroundings at all times and takes actions to avoid potential hazards and obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, and falling objects.
  • Fuels and lubricates all machinery, equipment, and vehicles. Maintains good housekeeping practices on equipment and assists with equipment routine preventative maintenance.
  • When not performing the above essential duties and responsibilities, may assist in other operations as designated by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent. At least 5-10 years of practical experience in the operation of heavy equipment. Prior experience working in a mining environment preferred. Ability to operate a Bulldozer and/or Motor Grader as well as well as two or more of the following: crane, front-end loader, skid steer, and haul truck.
  • Knowledge of light and heavy equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate in English for both operational efficiency and safety coordination with other operators and ground personnel.

WORK DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENT

  • Personal protective equipment is required on a regular basis, as needed, including hard hat, hearing protection, eye protection, hard-toed safety shoes or boots, dust mask respirator, protective clothing, gloves and other personal protective equipment.
  • The employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and may be working in extreme weather conditions including, heat, cold, wind and rain and dust. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; uneven ground and vibration, and high and/ or precarious places. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, safely, climb up sand deposits, ladders and up to six flights of stairs, and work on elevated platforms.
  • Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $34.78 - $45.00 per hour
