P. J. Hussey Construction is looking for an experienced Construction Accountant who thrives in a fast-paced environment and wants to help build a growing company. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the financial health of our construction and real estate operations.
Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of day-to-day accounting using QuickBooks Online
- Maintain accurate general ledger and financial records
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Perform bank, credit card, and loan reconciliations
- Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports
- Analyze job profitability and gross margins
- Monitor job costing and maintain accurate project financial data
- Track work-in-progress (WIP) and construction project budgets
- Prepare and review lien waivers, draws, and subcontractor payments
- Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
- Identify cost variances and recommend process improvements
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures
- Coordinate with external CPA for tax preparation and financial reporting
- Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation records
- Support payroll processing and employee expense reporting as needed
- Maintain accounting records for both construction and real estate entities
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal company procedures
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and efficiencies
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Minimum six (6) years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry
- Advanced proficiency with QuickBooks Online
- Strong knowledge of construction job costing
- Experience with WIP reporting
- Experience with progress billing
- Strong understanding of financial statement preparation
- General ledger accounting
- Bank reconciliations
- Experience managing accounting for multiple companies or entities is preferred
- Experience with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft 365
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage multiple priorities
