Project Director – Capital Projects

The Project Director – Capital Projects at P.B. Hoidale Co., Inc. is responsible for the leadership, strategic planning, and execution of large-scale capital projects across the organization. This role oversees project management teams, ensures the successful delivery of complex, multi-phase construction and fuel-system projects, and maintains strong customer relationships.

The Project Director plays a crucial role in driving project performance, improving operational efficiencies, and delivering high-quality results on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Planning

• Provide overall leadership and direction for all capital projects within the company.
• Develop project strategies, schedules, budgets, quality plans, and risk-mitigation frameworks.
• Collaborate with executive leadership to align project goals with organizational priorities and growth initiatives.
  
  

Project Execution & Oversight

• Direct and manage the planning, engineering, procurement, and construction phases of capital projects.
• Ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
• Monitor progress, identify challenges, and lead corrective actions to maintain schedule and budget integrity.
• Review and approve major project documentation including scopes, contracts, schedules, and change orders.
  
  

Team Leadership & Development

• Lead and mentor project managers, coordinators, estimators, and support staff.
• Foster a high-performance culture focused on accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Provide coaching, training, and professional development to enhance project management capabilities.
  
  

Financial Management

• Develop and oversee capital project budgets, forecasts, and financial performance reporting.
• Analyze project cost data and ensure fiscal responsibility across all project phases.
• Partner with estimating and finance teams to support bid development, value engineering, and cost control.
  
  

Customer & Stakeholder Management

• Serve as the primary point of contact for key clients, vendors, and external partners on capital project initiatives.
• Build and maintain strong long-term relationships with customers through proactive communication and exceptional service.
• Oversee stakeholder expectations, updates, and issue resolution throughout the project lifecycle.
  
  

Compliance, Safety & Quality Assurance

• Ensure strict adherence to company safety policies, industry regulations, and environmental requirements.
• Lead quality assurance initiatives, including project audits, performance reviews, and safety meetings.
• Maintain compliance with applicable construction codes, permitting requirements, and operational standards.
  
  

Process Improvement & Innovation

• Drive improvements in project delivery processes, tools, and methodologies.
• Evaluate and implement new technologies, systems, and best practices to enhance efficiency and transparency.
• Promote a culture of innovation to support long-term operational excellence and scalability.
  
  

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related field required; advanced degree preferred.
• 10 years of experience managing large capital projects, preferably in construction, industrial systems, or fuel-system infrastructure.
• Proven track record of successfully delivering multi-million-dollar projects on time and within budget.
• Strong leadership, communication, and team development skills.
• Deep knowledge of project management methodologies, scheduling tools, and construction processes.
• Understanding of safety standards, regulatory requirements, and environmental compliance.
• Excellent problem-solving, negotiation, and client-management abilities.
• PMP, PE, or similar certification is a plus.
