We are seeking an experienced Part-Time Equipment Repair Technician to diagnose, service, and repair professional hardwood floor sanding equipment and related tools.
Our service department works with commercial-grade equipment used by professional hardwood flooring contractors, including drum and belt sanders, edgers, buffers, floor machines, dust containment equipment, vacuums, and other specialty flooring equipment.
This position requires a strong combination of electrical troubleshooting, electric motor repair, and mechanical repair skills.
The ideal candidate has previous experience repairing electric motors, power tools, industrial equipment, floor care equipment, or similar electromechanical machinery. Direct experience with hardwood floor sanding equipment is highly desirable but not required for a candidate with strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting abilities.
Experienced, retired, and semi-retired technicians are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair professional hardwood floor sanding equipment
- Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical equipment failures
- Diagnose and repair single-phase electric motors and related electrical components
- Service belt and drum sanders, edgers, buffers, floor machines, vacuums, and dust containment equipment
- Replace bearings, brushes, switches, cords, capacitors, belts, pulleys, wheels, casters, seals, and other worn or damaged components
- Diagnose motor, wiring, switch, and electrical connection problems
- Inspect armatures, field windings, brushes, bearings, and other motor components
- Perform electrical testing using appropriate meters and diagnostic equipment
- Identify mechanical issues involving bearings, shafts, pulleys, drive systems, drums, wheels, and other moving components
- Disassemble equipment, determine required repairs, and properly reassemble and test equipment
- Perform preventive maintenance and equipment inspections
- Identify necessary replacement parts and communicate repair needs
- Test repaired equipment to ensure safe and proper operation
- Maintain an organized, clean, and safe service area
- Accurately document repairs and work performed

Qualifications
We are primarily interested in hands-on repair experience and mechanical/electrical ability rather than a specific degree or certification.
Strong candidates may have previous experience as an:
- Electric motor repair technician
- Small equipment repair technician
- Electromechanical technician
- Power tool repair technician
- Industrial maintenance technician
- Floor care equipment technician
- Hardwood floor sanding equipment technician
Preferred Skills
- Strong electrical troubleshooting ability
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Experience diagnosing and repairing electric motors
- Experience with bearings, brushes, armatures, windings, capacitors, switches, wiring, and electrical components
- Experience using multimeters and other electrical testing equipment
- Ability to diagnose problems rather than simply replace parts
- Experience with power tools or commercial/industrial equipment
- Ability to work independently and complete repairs accurately
- Hardwood floor sanding equipment experience is a significant plus
What We're Looking For
This is not an entry-level position.
We are looking for someone who already understands electrical and mechanical equipment repair and can use those skills to diagnose problems with professional hardwood flooring equipment.
You do not necessarily need previous hardwood flooring experience. A technician with a strong background in electric motor repair, power tool repair, industrial maintenance, or electromechanical equipment repair may be an excellent fit.
For someone with previous experience repairing professional floor sanders, edgers, buffers, or similar flooring equipment, we are especially interested in talking with you.
Schedule
- Approximately 16–24 hours per week
- Daytime hours
- Flexible part-time schedule
- Potential flexibility in the days worked
This could be an excellent opportunity for an experienced technician who wants to continue working in the trade without returning to a full-time schedule.
Compensation
Competitive hourly compensation based on experience and technical ability.
Candidates with direct experience repairing hardwood floor sanding equipment, electric motors, or professional power equipment will be compensated accordingly.
