Family Support Case Worker (Full-Time)

Location: East Hawaiʻi — In Person
Pay: $35,000–$37,000 per year
Schedule: Full-time, minimum of 40 hours per week; some evenings and weekends may be required

Position Overview

The Family Support Case Worker plays an important role in promoting child safety and family stability. This position works directly with families referred by Child Welfare Services (CWS) to help reduce the risk of child abuse and/or neglect.

The Family Support Case Worker focuses on strengthening parenting skills, supporting healthy family connections, and promoting safe reunification when appropriate.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support to families using agency-approved parenting curricula
  • Develop and implement lesson plans based on each family’s Individual Program Plan (IPP)
  • Teach, demonstrate, and reinforce effective parenting strategies
  • Supervise visits between parents or caregivers and children in office, home, and community settings to ensure child safety
  • Transport children as needed and facilitate in-person contact with parents, siblings, and extended family members to support healthy family relationships
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation and complete all required reports within established deadlines
  • Collaborate with management, administrative staff, colleagues, and community partners to support program quality and contractual compliance
  • Follow all agency policies, procedures, and contractual obligations

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field from an accredited college or university
  • At least one year of experience working with:
  • Parents or caregivers involved in child maltreatment cases
  • Children who have experienced abuse, neglect, trauma, or loss

Preferred Experience

Experience working with families or cases involving:

  • Domestic violence
  • Substance abuse
  • Permanency planning

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Careful attention to detail
  • Ability to meet strict documentation and reporting deadlines
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse families and community systems
  • Demonstrated professionalism, honesty, and ethical conduct

Additional Requirements

  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly throughout East Hawaiʻi
  • Maintain the required levels of insurance in accordance with agency and contractual standards
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel
