Position Summary

The Director of Education, Outreach & Welcoming is responsible for the development and oversight of Ozone House’s crisis response, welcoming, education and outreach services and programming and related staffing. Key aspects of the role include designing and carrying out outreach efforts, engagement and screening, Drop-In Center operations and facilitating integration and linkages across the agency and community. As a member of the agency’s leadership team, the Director of Education, Outreach & Welcoming works to identify and nurture best practices with youth using positive youth development, trauma informed, harm reduction, housing first and equity frameworks.

Educational Requirements

  • Master’s degree in social work or related field (required)
  • Professional licensing (preferred)


Experience Skills & Abilities Requirements

  • 5 years supervisory experience with ability to provide effective training, leadership and support
  • 5 years of experience providing program development, team management and service integration
  • Proven experience engaging with diverse identities, including intersecting identities of race, ethnicity, socioeconomic background and sexual orientation/ gender identity and expression
  • Commitment to best practices including Positive Youth Development, Harm-Reduction, Housing First and Trauma Informed approaches
  • Experience with data collection, reporting and budget oversight
  • Experience with outcome driven practice and meeting other contractual expectations
  • Strong written and oral communication, organizational and administrative skills
  • Facility with word processing, information management systems and web navigation
  • Flexibility in work schedule including some weekday evening availability
  • Familiarity with planning and executing events, including logistics, budgeting, and promotion
  • Awareness of knowledge of the issues and challenges faced by underrepresented individuals
  • Awareness and appreciation of cultural diversity, and the ability to work with individuals from different cultural backgrounds, understanding the impact of culture on individuals and communities
  • Demonstrated ability to problem-solve, anticipate needs, and initiate solutions
  • Experience collaborating across the organization to maximize innovation and effectiveness
  • Consider multiple costs and benefits when problem-solving to arrive at the most effective decision

Essential Job Functions

SUPERVISORY & ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES & EXPECTATIONS

  • Ensure that assigned staff, interns and volunteers receive on-going leadership & support to enable them to fulfill the performance expectations of their job in accordance with agency philosophy, mission, and standards. Document supervision activities
  • Collaborate & partner with Human Resources for the recruitment, screening, hiring and onboarding of staff and volunteers
  • Design and implement individual and group training and orientation for new and existing staff to enable them to fulfill their jobs according to agency philosophy, mission and standards, and to help them learn and stay current with best practices for youth work
  • Conduct regular 1:1's & provide feedback to staff on performance and implement performance improvement actions as needed in accordance with the agency policy
  • Provide support, including written performance evaluations to all staff completing their orientation period and to all others on an annual basis, or more often as needed
  • Work with the agency’s Leadership Team and Data Team to develop, implement, and review the agency's evaluation and quality improvement plan. Monitor agency outcomes as well as service integrity and effectiveness to demonstrate Ozone House’s impact on youth, families and the community to ensure compliance with internal and external expectations and standards
  • Review relevant program budgets and communicate needs and/ or concerns to the Director of Program Operations and Services
  • Help with grant writing and reporting as needed
  • Participate in agency strategic planning efforts
  • Be familiar with and use the NASW Code of Ethics, State of Michigan’s Mental Health Code and Ozone House policies and procedures to guide practice and decision making


PROGRAM MANAGEMENT DUTIES & EXPECTATIONS

  • Provide oversight and monitor crisis response, welcoming, education, and outreach services and programs including street outreach, screenings, meals and other gateway services, crisis prevention and short-term interventions, referrals and linkages
  • Ensure adequate capacity and coverage for all EOW activities using trained staff and volunteers
  • Engage staff to develop annual goals, activities and outcomes for each service and program. Produce monthly reports for each area including required statistics and evaluation of service effectiveness
  • Support employment programs through curriculum enhancement, planning & facilitation consultation, internship site development and project evaluation and reporting
  • Assist & support staff with the recruitment, hiring, training and development of Youth Peer Specialists
  • Ensure documentation of all services and programs in accordance with agency standards as well as guidelines developed by regulatory bodies and funding sources
  • Ensure compliance with agency policy and procedures, regulatory requirements and contractual mandates and participate in relevant external audits
  • Conduct regular quality assurance activities including review of participant data entered into information management systems, screenings, personnel files, observation of staff-youth interactions and develop quality improvement plans
  • Develop recommendations for improvements to service delivery. Implement changes and new programming as directed by the Director of Program Operations & Services
  • Develop/ update program policies and procedures as needed
  • In collaboration with Outreach Coordinators, support the planning and coordination of on-going Drop-In and other programming that aligns with the developmental needs of youth participants and builds their self-sufficiency. Ensure publication of monthly program calendar
  • Convene EOW staff on a regular basis (at least monthly) for the purposes of in-service training, agency/ program updates, feedback and team-building
  • Provide support for community engagement and development efforts by representing the agency in community venues, reviewing program materials and developing community engagement strategies
  • Ensure timely acquisition of groceries and supplies for EOW activities
  • Identify Drop-In Center maintenance issues and coordinate a resolution
  • Provide consultation and support to on-call staff in the event of a client crisis or other emergency
  • Work with the Residential Program Director and Housing and Supportive Services Program Director to ensure that high quality services are provided to all clients, ensure a smooth transition of clients into and out of services/ program and ensure effective communication and cooperation between program staff


GENERAL EXPECTATIONS

  • Partner with the Leadership Team, other staff and community partners to develop and implement programs and services that support best practices in youth Systems of Care
  • Attend agency committees and community meetings and provide agency leadership as assigned
  • Participate in monthly all-staff meetings
  • Attend regular supervision with the Associate Director
  • Work variable hours/days as activities and workload require.
  • Driving occasionally in support of administration and Ozone functions


Supplemental Functions

  • Participate in advocacy efforts with other public and private service delivery systems and policy makers on behalf of the needs of runaway, homeless, and at-risk youth, and their families
  • Participate in grant writing and other fundraising efforts
  • Be familiar with and use the NASW Code of Ethics and Ozone House policies and procedures to guide practice and decision making
  • Serve as a member of the agency’s Administrative Team to support Diversity, Equity and Inclusion efforts, social justice strategies, as well as a safe and productive organizational culture
  • Required duties are performed with an awareness of the impact upon agency structure as a whole
  • Maintains individual credentials and participation in education and training as necessary to maintain current competency in skill areas necessary to perform job duties
  • Follows oral and written direction completing tasks as assigned by due dates.
  • Maintains working knowledge of software applications used in performance of daily duties
  • Represent Ozone House at community events and conduct oneself in an ethical, mature, and professional manner with honesty and integrity, welcoming clients, coworkers and other stakeholders with dignity and respect
  • Adhere to the Mission, Values and Visio of Ozone House incorporating equity, opportunity, and inclusiveness for all stakeholders.
  • Attend agency committees and community meetings and provide agency leadership as assigned
  • Participate in monthly all-staff meetings and actively participates in team functions
  • Attend & engage in regular 1:1 supervisions with the Executive Director


WORK ENVIRONMENT, PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND TRAVEL

This job operates in a professional office environment. The physical demands of the position include vision, effective speech and hearing for extensive telephone contact; repetitive motion; driving or riding in a motor vehicle; standing, sitting, walking, bending, reaching, and stretching; and lifting up to twenty-five (25) pounds unassisted. This role routinely uses standard office equipment with prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions, so long as it creates no undue hardship to the agency. Must have reliable transportation to be able to travel and maintain the rigors of a busy schedule.

Salary : $70,000 - $74,000
