POSITION SUMMARY

The Outreach Coordinator is part of the Education, Outreach and Welcoming Team which is responsible for designing and carrying out the agency’s education, outreach, and welcoming efforts across the community. The Outreach Coordinator is responsible for providing crisis assessments and short-term interventions while working on connecting them internally to Ozone House services or externally to community partners. Additionally, this position will provide staffing support at the Drop-In Center and conduct educational presentations and outreach activities to increase awareness of Ozone House services in local schools and community-based organizations. This position directly responsible for the supervision and leadership of peer-outreach workers.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field (required)
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • 2 years of experience working with homeless, exploited, or other high-risk youth
  • 3 years facilitation and outreach experience (preferred)
  • 3 years’ experience in crisis intervention and customer service
  • Proven experience engaging with diverse identities, including intersecting identities of race, ethnicity, socioeconomic background and sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to best practices including Positive Youth Development, Harm-Reduction, Housing First and Trauma Informed approaches/models
  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, data entry and web navigation
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic and ability to take initiative. Demonstrate a high level of personal and professional integrity and trustworthiness
  • Successful completion of pre-employment and annual background check; valid driver’s license, current insurance, and access to reliable transportation

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
  • Work requires effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills; ability to produce quality work within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects; ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings
  • Familiarity with planning and executing events, including logistics, budgeting, and promotion
  • Familiarity with document preparation, editing, and storage systems
  • Awareness of knowledge of the issues and challenges faced by underrepresented individuals
  • Proficient in communication strategies for internal and external audiences
  • Awareness and appreciation of cultural diversity, and the ability to work with individuals from different cultural backgrounds, understanding the impact of culture on individuals and communities
  • Demonstrated ability in Exercising tact, discretion, and diplomacy
  • Proficient in the ability to Actively listen and use empathy to understand the experiences and needs of others
  • Strong Collaborator to maximize effective outcomes

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

PROGRAMMATIC DUTIES
  • Community-Based Youth Engagement: Maintain a visible and active presence in community spaces, including public transit routes and hubs, schools, libraries, and other places where youth gather to connect with young people during high-traffic hours. Build trust and offer supportive interactions to help youth navigate available services.
  • Crisis Response and Intervention: Provide immediate crisis intervention and short-term support to youth in need, both on-site at service locations and throughout the community. Respond to emergency needs and assist in connecting youth to appropriate services and resources.
  • Community Collaboration and Outreach: Develop and maintain relationships with local schools, businesses, and youth-serving organizations to identify young people in need and enhance access to supportive services. Participate in community events, meetings, and outreach opportunities to advocate for youth need.
  • Drop-In and Program Support the day-to-day operations of youth-centered programs, including the drop-in center. Assist with welcoming youth, completing intakes, and delivering group-based or skill-building activities when needed. Support the general operating of this space in relationship to specific duties.
  • Data Collection and Reporting: Accurately document all interactions and services provided, track outcomes, and support program evaluation through data entry and monthly reporting.
  • Group-Based Programming and Facilitation: Plan and facilitate group sessions focused on life skills, identity support, and youth development topics. These groups may take place at Ozone House, in schools, community organizations, or virtual environments and are designed to build confidence, connection, and resilience among youth participants.
OTHER ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND EXPECTATIONS
  • Supervise & lead assigned Peer Specialists – including scheduling, time approval, performance management, supervisions & development.
  • Be familiar with and use the NASW Code of Ethics, State of Michigan's Mental Health Code and Ozone House policies and procedures to guide practice and decision making
  • Serve as a member of the agency’s Education, Outreach, and Welcoming Team to support Diversity, Equity and Inclusion efforts, social justice strategies, as well as a safe and productive organizational culture
  • Interact effectively with peers and staff. Required duties are performed with an awareness of the impact upon agency structure as a whole
  • Participate in ongoing education and training as necessary to maintain and grow in skill areas necessary to perform job duties
  • Follows oral and written direction completing tasks as assigned by due dates
  • Maintains working knowledge of software applications used in performance of daily duties
  • Adhere to the Mission, Values and Vision of Ozone House incorporating equity, opportunity and inclusiveness for all stakeholders
  • Attend agency committees and community meetings and provide agency leadership as assigned.
  • Participate in monthly all-staff meetings
  • Conduct & attend regular supervision with assigned staff & the Education, Outreach, and Welcoming Department Director.
ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Days and hours of work are typically scheduled on site, Monday - Friday, between the hours of 8 AM & 6 PM, this position is expected to work variable hours/days as activities and workload may require flexible days to accommodate for meetings and committees.
  • Maintain the on-call phone, on a rotating basis, to provide 24-hour emergency assistance and crisis intervention to homeless and runaway youth.
  • Driving occasionally in support of administration and Ozone functions
  • Regular and routine attendance as scheduled
WORK ENVIRONMENT, PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND TRAVEL

This job operates in a professional office environment. The physical demands of the position include vision, effective speech and hearing for extensive telephone contact; repetitive motion; driving or riding in a motor vehicle; standing, sitting, walking, bending, reaching, and stretching; and lifting up to twenty-five (25) pounds unassisted. This role routinely uses standard office equipment with prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions, so long as it creates no undue hardship to the agency.
