Position Overview
We are seeking a compassionate, knowledgeable, and customer-focused Respiratory Therapist to join our team in a Customer Support and Equipment Setup role. This position is an excellent opportunity for an RT who enjoys working directly with patients and customers while providing exceptional service and helping individuals successfully use their respiratory equipment at home.
The Respiratory Therapist will assist customers by answering questions, troubleshooting equipment, coordinating setups, educating patients and caregivers, and ensuring that equipment is properly set up and used safely according to physician orders and company protocols.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide friendly, professional customer support by phone, in person, and/or electronically.
- Educate patients and caregivers on the proper and safe use, cleaning, and maintenance of respiratory equipment.
- Perform CPAP/BiPAP/PAP setups, including mask fitting, equipment instruction, and basic troubleshooting.
- Set up and educate patients on home oxygen equipment, including oxygen concentrators, portable oxygen systems, and related supplies.
- Troubleshoot common equipment and therapy-related concerns and determine when issues should be escalated.
- Assist customers with questions regarding CPAP masks, tubing, filters, oxygen supplies, and other respiratory equipment.
- Follow physician orders and established clinical/company protocols.
- Communicate effectively with patients, caregivers, physicians, referral sources, and internal team members.
- Document customer interactions, equipment setups, education, and follow-up activities accurately.
- Follow up with patients to ensure they understand their equipment and are receiving appropriate support.
- Assist with compliance and therapy-support programs as needed.
- Coordinate equipment deliveries, exchanges, repairs, and replacement supplies when appropriate.
- Maintain accurate records and complete all required setup and patient documentation.
- Promote a positive customer experience by treating every patient with patience, respect, and compassion.
- Maintain knowledge of respiratory equipment, products, and company procedures.
- Perform other duties related to respiratory therapy and customer support as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Current Respiratory Therapist license/certification.
- Strong communication and customer-service skills.
- Ability to explain medical equipment and instructions in a simple, easy-to-understand manner.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Comfortable using computers, electronic medical records, and/or customer management systems.
Preferred:
- Experience in DME, Home Medical Equipment, Home Health, Sleep Medicine, or Pulmonary Care.
- Experience setting up and supporting CPAP/BiPAP/PAP equipment.
- Experience with home oxygen therapy and oxygen equipment.
- Experience with patient compliance, mask fitting, troubleshooting, and respiratory equipment education.
- Previous customer service or call-center experience in a healthcare setting.
- Experience working directly with patients in their homes or outpatient settings.
