Ozark Literacy Council (OLC) is seeking an Evening ESL Instructor to deliver high-quality instruction for adult learners in both English as a Second Language (ESL) and WAGE (Workforce Alliance for Growth in the Economy) programs.
WAGE is an Arkansas-based workforce education initiative that helps adults build essential digital literacy, financial literacy, and employability skills to earn industry-recognized certificates and strengthen their career opportunities. Curriculum and instructional materials will be provided by the OLC. Training and support from senior teachers will be available, and schedules may be adjusted based on instructor availability following discussion.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Tutoring
- Teach evening ESL and WAGE classes in person using OLC approved curriculum and instructional tools.
- Design lessons that actively engage ESL students in using the online curricula provided by OLC. Assign homework that reinforces classroom learning and encourages students to continue studying at home to support ongoing progress.
Technology Integration & Support
- Utilize digital learning tools provided by OLC to support instruction and reinforce learning.
- Support students in developing digital literacy skills and navigating virtual tools confidently.
- Incorporate multimedia resources and digital exercises to enhance engagement and accessibility.
Student Assessment & Progress
- Track student attendance, participation, and learning progress through regular assessments.
- Maintain accurate documentation for ESL and WAGE program reporting.
- Encourage student persistence and celebrate milestones, achievements, and certificate completions.
Support & Collaboration
- Follow up with students to support retention and continued engagement.
- Collaborate with OLC staff to ensure consistency across programs and instructional levels.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities related to ESL and adult education.
Program Development & Reporting
- Provide feedback to improve curriculum and online teaching tools.
- Contribute student success stories and outcomes for newsletters and grant reports.
Note: Responsibilities may be adjusted slightly to align with program development and organizational priorities.
- Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, human services, or a related field.
- Experience in tutoring, adult education, or workforce development.
- Strong communication, writing, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated cultural competence and experience with diverse learners, including ESL students and adult learners.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and maintain accurate documentation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite preferred.
- Additional language proficiency is a plus.
- Build authentic relationships with students, tutors, and community partners.
- Demonstrate commitment to equity, inclusion, and social justice in education.
- Support a welcoming environment where every participant feels valued and connected.
