Job Description Summary
The Medical Assistant (MA), as directed by the physician(s), advanced practitioner(s) and/or RN/LPN(s), performs patient care activities for office patients and related non-professional services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of patients. MA provides services to individuals impacted by a variety of behavioral health (addiction/substance use and mental health) issues, recognizing that the individuals we serve often times have experienced trauma that affects their development and adjustment. They will be trained in trauma-informed care and will work to help provide services in an environment that is sensitive and responsive which will prevent victimization, abuse, or trauma as a result of the care received. The MA will report to the Nurse Coordinator of Adult Psychiatric Practices.

Education
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Certification as a Registered/Certified Medical Assistant in the state of Missouri.
- The MA meets the total clinical needs of the practice patients as determined by the Psychiatrist or Advance Practice Nurse in consultation with or as ordered by the psychiatrist physician.
- Reports same to the Nurse Coordinator of Adult Psychiatric Practices but may also report to the Physician or Advance Practice Nurse.
- The MA performs other duties as assigned or directed by the Nurse Coordinator of Adult Psychiatric Practices, doctor assigned to or the APN.
- The MA utilizes proper communication with higher level nursing and/or physician; ongoing maintenance of appropriate medications, maintaining logs for medication samples and other logs as deemed necessary through clinic.
- The MA facilitates efficient transition of patients throughout the office visit. Efficient identification of patient problems; communication of pertinent data to physician/provider; accurate chart/charge preparation and collection of pertinent data.
- The MA makes appropriate referrals, demonstrates proper use of standing orders, and ensures appropriate, accurate, and timely documentation in electronic health records.
- The MA actively engages patients and family and assists in the education of patient’s plan of care.
- The MA meets the productivity standards of the mental health office.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Normal office environment.
- Typical demands include prolonged sitting, frequent standing, bending, stooping, and occasional lifting.
- Requires normal range of hearing and manual dexterity sufficient to operate keyboard, telephone, photocopier, calculator, and other office equipment as needed.
- Requires ability to remain calm during stressful events, to occasionally work irregular hours, and work with exasperated individuals.
- Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
