BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF POSITION The Interpreter Paraeducator V works under the direct supervision of the Assistant Principal assigned to Special Education and the teachers of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. They will work with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Specialist and the School Resource Specialist to assist the Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES a) Provides instructional support to students as directed by the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Specialists and Case Manager. b) Keeps the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Specialists and Case Manager of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing students informed regarding the students' progress in mainstream classes. c) Learns sign vocabulary specific to each class. d) Takes notes of deemed necessary for the lesson and/or deemed necessary by the teacher of record/case manager. e) Prepares for mainstream classes by checking out the appropriate text, by reading the assigned material, by communicating with the regular teacher, and by keeping up with the direction and demands of the class. f) Collaborates with the general and special education teacher and team interpreters
Requirements / Qualifications
WORK YEAR: Paraeducator Work Year (10 months) WORK DAY: Monday to Friday, 6.75 hours per day EDUCATION: High School diploma and/or GED (required) 48 College Units and/or an Associate’s Degree or the successful completion of the ParaPro test LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid certification issued by the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment, the Educational Sign Skills Evaluation-Interpreter, or the National Association of the Deaf/American Consortium of Certified Interpreters assessment as required under California State Law. Valid California Driver’s License SALARY: Paraeducator V Salary Schedule BENEFITS: Medical, dental vision and life insurance (employee contribution) PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS: Must be able to bend, stoop, reach, lift and stand for prolonged periods; see to read fine print; depth perception to file; use hands and fingers to perform tasks; speak clearly; and hear well enough to communicate effectively. WORKING CONDITIONS: Office and school environment. May be subject to constant interruptions. Subject to occasional noise from computer operation and visual exposure to the computer screens.
