This role is responsible for preparing sales & use tax and property tax returns, along with related schedules, reports, and work papers. The position also supports tax accounting for non‑routine transactions, process improvement initiatives, tax research, exemption certificate management, and audit activities. Success in this role requires strong knowledge of state and local tax principles, attention to detail, the ability to manage competing priorities, and effective communication with internal and external stakeholders. Experience with indirect and property tax in multiple states is preferred.
*This role is mostly remote, requires going into the Denver Office 1 or 2 times a month.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare sales & use and property tax returns with required documentation
- Analyze tax treatment and document tax positions for routine and non‑routine items
- Gather, verify, and reconcile data for tax accounting, reporting, and accruals
- Support exemption certificate management, audits, and responses to tax authorities
- Maintain internal controls and contribute to process and system improvements
- Apply relevant industry‑specific tax concepts as needed
Requirements
- Strong analytical and tax research skills with the ability to evaluate moderately complex transactions
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including explaining tax issues to non‑tax audiences
- Strong organizational and time‑management abilities with capacity to meet multiple deadlines
- High accuracy and attention to detail under strict timelines
- Understanding of internal controls and awareness of cross‑functional tax impacts
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel (pivot tables, data analysis, formulas)
- Ability to learn new systems and applications
- Experience with ERP systems and data extraction tools preferred
- Familiarity with tax compliance and research software
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in tax, accounting, law, or related field
- Master’s degree in tax or accounting is a plus
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience (or 6 years in lieu of degree)
- Experience in industry‑specific accounting or tax preferred
- State and local tax experience (sales & use or property tax) preferred
- Professional certifications (CPA, CIA, CFE, etc.) are a plus
Salary : $75,000 - $90,000
