Yard Operations & Sales Leadership
• Supervise, train, and develop lumberyard associates to ensure productivity, safety, and service excellence
• Provide ongoing coaching, performance feedback, and recognition
• Delegate daily workload to support order fulfillment, merchandising standards, and efficient yard flow
• Coordinate receiving, stocking, material flow, and customer load-outs
• Monitor sales performance goals and ensure company procedures are followed accurately
• Assist with staffing decisions, scheduling, and payroll management to align with customer demand and budget guidelines
• Partner with vendors on product displays, inventory flow, and merchandising updates
• Support implementation of promotions, contractor outreach efforts, and seasonal merchandising strategies
Customer & Contractor Service
• Promote a customer-first culture focused on speed, accuracy, and professionalism
• Assist contractors, builders, and retail customers with product selection, load-outs, and special orders
• Ensure all customers are acknowledged promptly and concerns are resolved efficiently
• Review service metrics and implement improvement strategies as needed
• Lead by example in delivering knowledgeable, solution-based service
Inventory & Logistics Management
• Maintain accurate on-hand inventory through cycle counts, receiving verification, and proper material storage
• Monitor inventory reports to reduce shrink and optimize stock levels
• Ensure quality control of incoming lumber and building materials
• Coordinate deliveries and verify accurate staging of outgoing orders
Safety, Compliance & Yard Environment
• Enforce all safety policies and serve as a role model for safe equipment operation
• Ensure forklifts, loaders, and yard equipment are operated and maintained properly
• Conduct routine safety inspections and correct hazards immediately
• Maintain a clean, organized, and professional yard environment
Training & Development
• Oversee onboarding and on-the-job training for yard associates
• Identify skill gaps and implement training to improve safety, efficiency, and product knowledge
• Pursue ongoing leadership development and industry education
Education & Experience
• High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Minimum 1 year of leadership experience in a lumberyard, warehouse, or building materials environment
• Supervisory experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Strong knowledge of lumber products, building materials, and yard operations
• Proficiency in forklift and material-handling equipment operation
• Excellent communication and team leadership skills
• Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
• Ability to analyze reports and manage inventory effectively
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
• Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
Physical Requirements
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work in indoor and outdoor yard environments
• Ability to lift and move materials up to 40 pounds regularly
• Comfortable working near moving equipment and in varying weather conditions
Work Environment
Work is performed in both indoor retail and outdoor lumberyard environments. Exposure to heavy materials, moving equipment, weather conditions, and moderate noise levels is expected. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals to perform essential job functions.
